To Catch a Monkey

Great fun! Use bombs to scare the monkeys into running. And yes, it is funny to make them run into spikes or blow them up. But after that it's a pretty nifty puzzle game as you don't want to lose a monkey. It's already a good challenge for me and I'm still in the first chapter. Fun music, cute graphics and solid game play. Thumbs up!

"To Catch a Monkey" is what looks like a mobile/browser app that got dumped on Steam by mistake. It's a simple 2D retro pixelcrap (sigh) puzzle minigame that barely rivals Sokoban from the 1990's. What do you do in the game? You drop "bombs" that force monkeys to move on a grid puzzle to get them into the target zones. Place your bombs carefully. Actually this comes across as even worse than Sokoban. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else.
