Touhou Shoujo Tale of Beautiful Memories / 東方少女綺想譚

This game simply makes me happy; my go to comfort game. Gameplay wise, it may be a carbon copy of Super Mario RPG, but this version of Gensokyo is just utterly charming. The dialogs are written with love for mostly every character, highlighting their positive sides. Everytime I play this game, I just feel happy. This is my absolute favorite Touhou fan game. (And it seems the game breaking bug is finally fixed, so you don't need a wolf-reader to change a name in the enemy files anymore)

If i could leave a neutral review I would for this game. This game is a tribute to both Super Mario RPG, and Touhou. Overall I did have quite a lot of fun with this game in the early, and middle portions of the game. The story for the most part was interesting, and I loved just how many characters appear in this game. The art style overall is really nice and recreates that feel of Super Mario RPG quite well, as with Mario RPG this game too has parts that the isometric perspective just messes with me and makes platforming and such a challenge. The character art was insanely fan-servicey like holy moly, almost every character in the game has massive boobers, its honestly a bit over the top and I kept asking "Why is every character in this game so dang stacked?" lol. The battles for the most part are fine, I was able to get through pretty much the entire game on the Normal difficulty. The music is honestly just kind of whatever, like its not bad or anything but none of it was really all that memorable. It honestly didn't really sound like Touhou music and more so just generic music, I never felt like it got to the point that it would need to be muted, but I would not be able to rememb…

As someone who beat Mario RPG as a kid, I'm so glad this exists, better characters and interactions and richer story and details than Mario RPG too, the only downside being there's not too many guides in English, and the platforming can be jank, I just saw it as a challenge though and got way better at it as the game progresses, I think it has a lot of replayability too, there's so many team members you can have for your party, and secret bosses etc, that makes replaying it fun with a different team. They're currently making a sequel as well to this game, I can't wait to play it, and if this one isn't for you, or too dated maybe, then I'd highly recommend waiting for the sequel. Really fun rpg. It looks like Super Mario RPG and by God does it take a lot from that game. A lot of the scenarios are almost 1:1 with that game, which isn't really an issue, it's cute to see a touhou spin on a classic game. Though, it does differ a lot in a lot of places, enough for this to not just feel like you're playing a re-skin. It's rather easy, though i did fight every encounter i happened upon (the timed-hit gimmick is in this game too, and always feels satisfying to pull off), though there are a lot of optional bosses that will challenge you, shoutout to suika and yuugi always love to see my onis. One complaint i have is that the music didn't really leave an impact on me, which for a game which takes from both touhou and SMRPG, you'd expect it to have some tracks that stick with you, sadly this didn't. Not every map and plot element is just lifted from SMRPG, which is refreshing. I'd say go for it if you've played SMRPG enough that it's stale to you, or you haven't and are looking for a cute rpg to spend some time with. Took me around 20 hours to beat doing mostly all of the side content ( [spoiler]I couldn't beat mima :([/spoiler].
