Buy the game on sale and play act 1, it's easy for those who play a lot of puzzlers. but gorgeous and good fun. I originally didn't recommend the game because act 2 is just dog water, but the 3 to 4 hours of act 1 make up the vast majority of the game and are great by themselves. Act 1 is a self contained finished story, just go in and once you see the credits roll, quit the game and leave having enjoyed yourself. [strike] If this game ended after Act 1 I'd give it a positive review. It's gorgeous and the puzzles are fun yet don't ever provide much of a challenge, nice entry level puzzle game. However this game has act 2, there is not a single act 2 puzzle I encountered that I enjoyed. The team doesn't seem to know how to design a difficult puzzle, so instead of complicated thought provoking hard mode puzzles they give you puzzles that require boring amounts of precision. Not even to mention how they toss away the gorgeous custom levels for repetitive red blobs. I did enjoy the first half, but I can't give the game a positive review with that 2nd act. Maybe i'll come back and try finishing things. But I don't see the point in playing a game that's just not fun. [strike]1 found this helpful
Good puzzle game, the ending is Soo worth It
A 2D platformer that deserved more recognition than it got. The puzzles are well done and remain challenging without being unreasonable (though a small few will require alot of precision). Credit to Joshscorcher for drawing my attention to this great game, otherwise it might never have entered my radar.
TLDR, if you like puzzle platformers, buy this game, I cannot recommend it enough. Ugly starts off strong with a striking art style and setting. For a game called Ugly, it is anything but. The look and feel of the game made me excited to see what the game had in store and luckily for me, I wasnt disappointed. The game eases you into the main mechanics of the game which took some getting used to, but once you finally have a grasp on that, it adds another new mechanic. The game is always adding new twists to puzzles and its genuinely exciting to see what the next section will add. The story of the game is told through these little scenes that you find throughout the levels, and through environmental storytelling. Every area feels lovingly and deliberately handcrafted to help tell the story. (Honestly the graphics are easily my favorite thing about this game.) And finally the bosses, so far I have fought 3, And I've liked them all especially one in particular. They offered decent challenge and felt unique since you dont possess any combat capabilities. All in all, Ugly is a beautiful game with tight controls and inivative design. It deserves alot more attention than its gotten.
I really loved Ugly. I’m usually not the biggest puzzle person, but these were clever and satisfying without being too hard, which made them really enjoyable to solve. The boss fights were also incredible, not overly difficult, but very satisfying and memorable. The art style was gorgeous, and the soundtrack was incredible, fitting the mood perfectly throughout the game. I also really liked the lore, which added a lot of depth and made the whole experience feel even more meaningful. It’s a unique and memorable game that really stayed with me, I highly recommend this masterpiece.
Pretty legit puzzle platformer. Seems like each puzzle room (so far) has a self-contained solution and you just have to figure it out. The first boss took me forever to understand what I had to do to beat it, but once I did I felt so satisfied.
