What Steam players say

Players praise The Unknown's atmospheric design, creepy visuals, and puzzle gameplay that blends Portal-like mechanics with horror elements, though some note the puzzles are relatively straightforward and uncomplicated. The main criticisms center on the short playtime (1.5-2 hours) feeling expensive for the price, clunky controls with occasional button registration issues on controllers, and a narrative that lacks depth despite exploring interesting psychological themes. Most agree the game is worth experiencing for its presentation and ambiance, though opinions vary on whether the content jus
The Unknow is a creepy platformer, akin to Portal, if the last one was mixed with Silent Hill or Penumbra. Quite amazing to look at, although, the buttons fail to register at some points, while using a controller. A recommendation for those who enjoy puzzles and the game runs perfectly well on Steam Deck as you can see by pressing the link below: https://youtu.be/eYQrFb2tyqc3 found this helpful
A good-looking game with a great atmosphere, some nice horror elements, and pretty good voice acting as well. As for the story... The main idea of showing an abstract view of how someone fights with their mind and past isn't new but is always pleasing to see. If done well, that is... However, as well as this game's gameplay, the narrative has no real depth. You just complete some very Portal-like, but much more clunky and not very innovative puzzles and listen to a very monotone, straightforward story with a very unusual focal point and some parts being too over-the-top. The most I got from this game was basking in the surroundings with its great atmosphere, catching an effect and/or horror element that was kinda cool to see, and the VA. But whether it was for the story or the puzzles, neither was noteworthy. I still think that with a better direction and some tweaks, this would be a game with quite the potential.1 found this helpful
Duration: 2 hour(s) The Unknown is one of many of those indie Unreal horror games. Thankfully it's more of a puzzle game rather than you've got a ghost/monster chasing you. Some of the art direction is nice. You're basically just letting the player character work through some things in a strange world as you do puzzles and platform around. The game mechanics you work with are some light balls you pick up and move it to other places. That's about it. Pretty simple, but the puzzles are at least decent, though you probably won't ever get too lost. The platforming parts tended to be okay, but some were slightly difficult. Again, you won't get stuck for much long on them though. The game was basically a walking simulator, honestly. Also, I never did all of the achievements for it, but probably won't take too much work. The main point of the game, then, is the story. Let's just say, the main character needs to really get some therapy. Spend some time productive with yourself or something. I guess this game is kind of therapy for the dev, but for me, the story didn't really catch me. And the horror stuff is pretty normal, but thankfully there wasn’t much there for jump scares. Amazing graphics, spooky lil puzzle game. But it feels a bit too short for the price. Maybe add more levels in a free dlc or something.1 found this helpful
Finished the game, that was a nice experience! Puzzles are interesting and not to complex. Also needs some try before success. The lights and ambiance are amazing. Would like to know more about what will happen now to Michael... However, 1h30 of play time for about 14$ is quite expensive, I think. but worse the work in a promo. 5 years of dev I understand why the price :) Congrats on making a game on your own !!1 found this helpful
I dont usually do reviews (because I forget) but this game was amazing!! The puzzle were challenging but not too hard that you wanna slam your desk lol the bit of horror was just slight but enough to keep you on edge and the story was sad yet amazing as well. Seems like there will be more levels to come. CANT WAIT!!!1 found this helpful
