✦ AI summary
URO2 is a rhythm game with a solid track list of 100+ songs and adjustable difficulty levels that appeal to rhythm game enthusiasts, though players praise its cute visuals and soundtrack. However, the game suffers from significant issues including confusing English translations, lack of tutorials for handling precise inputs, and reportedly carries over technical problems from the original game without meaningful improvements to the engine.
Having debuted at this year's Comiket96, URO2 is the latest beatmania style game from Japanese indie developer AECRNIA. Stuffed with a hefty 100+ electronic, dance, and house tracks to play, audiophiles will get their money's worth, if you can look past its confusing English translation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NELebiLLOc8
Pros
+ Sizable catalogue - 100 tracks means a mere 0.15$ per song at retail price + Adjustable difficulty (Easy, Medium, Expert, Master) for challenge seekers + Simple & rebindable 3-button control + Cute 3D avatars and crisp 2D artwork + Completion achievements
Cons
- Confusing translation. Does not hamper menu navigation, only storyline - No tutorial play, especially to teach you how to handle millisecond inputs - Instead of color blocks, symbols are much easier to identify what key to press, but aren't supported - The input zone is hard to see between bright input flashes, and it doesn't clearly display good vs perfect timings - A special requirement to unlock alternate storyline routes is hinted at, but not explained - Stuttering and desync may occur with poor PC specs https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=…16 found this helpful
What is URO? URO is a taiko-inspired HSRG (horizontal scrolling rhythm game) that on the surface seems to be a rather average rhythm game nobody asked for. What's even more weird, we're talking about URO2, a sequel to a game very few people were aware of and those who somehow knew it was out there didn't really like it, citing its numerous bugs, errors and overall unpleasant experience. Boasting a ~mixed~ rating and less than 500 reviews, URO SOMEHOW MANAGED TO GET A SEQUEL which is like.. why? Sure, there was lots room for improvement (mostly engine-related), but instead of (at the very least) attempting to fix the original game, they went straight for the sequel and... nothing's changed, I guess? It has the exact same problems the original URO had, but with new OST + story. URO2 has three fundamental problems that cannot be overlooked: -Notes in charts aren't placed based on BPM / timing sections, it feels like they were manually placed with a mouse to be 'roughly on time' with music which is the most amateur and unacceptable approach to a rhythm game -Audio balance is all over the place in URO2, some tracks are quiet, others are obnoxiously loud -Performance issues, the game …
