About VanillaBeast: Retro Knock-Out!

VanillaBeast: Retro Knock-Out!

A Parody Game

Are you looking for a CHALLENGING retro game? We DO NOT coddle you. We grew up going from Atari 2600 in the 80s to the NES in the 90s facing the real Mike Tyson in Punch-Out!, trying to kill Jaws in the NES game, fighting through hordes of evil in Ghosts N' Goblins, and understanding the sewer system in the OG TMNT, all without hand-holding, YouTube to bail us out, or smart phones to give us every answer at the touch of a button. We want you to laugh at the jokes, enjoy the game at your own pace, but also to feel a sense of accomplishment when you beat an opponent. We want you to remember what it's like to have to scoot up to the screen, turn your hat backwards, and actually focus to beat a boss. We're not for everyone, we know that, and we want it that way. All that being said, we designed Retro KO! to make you LAUGH. So, sit back, grab a adult beverage of choice and see if you're tough enough to make your way through the Venereousville Boxing ranks and defeat Tike Myson for all the glory!

Gentlemen's Club to Glod's Gym to the sacred boxing ring, you're in for a wild ride.
Head back to the late 80s / early 90s with tons of nostalgic pop culture easter eggs and references. Retro Knock-Out! is a project of passion created by children of the 90s who want to bring that special time in history back to you. 8-bit chiptunes, hilarious parody songs, familiar old school gameplay and comedy that hits like Caddyshack (back when comedy was actually good) did. Remember, Retro Knock-Out! is just like Jack Burton always said.. it's all in the reflexes.
  • Over 30 parody boxers with hilarious intros, dialog, and animations. Face off against Fake Jaul, Mason Gorehees, Cocky, Iron Druggo, Macho Boxer Dandy Ravage, Smasher Wang, and of course the reigning champ.. Tike Myson.
  • Gorgeous character and level design paying homage to the OG Punch-Out!
  • Awesome indoor and outdoor parody venues such as "Madison's Bare Garden" and "Big Bounce Beach" offer fun and unique boxing locations.

what I expected: a revival similar to punchout which was fun, polished, and had tons of likeable characters. what I got: a game with lagged buggy delayed controls, terrible story, unlikeable characters, and a game just trying to be shocking with adult content.

I bought this game hoping for a "Mike Tyson's Punch Out" from when I was a child as the videos and ads for this game clearly show this. However, the controls are not nearly as aligned with the hoped game as well as the very first character you fight - the 'training' fight - failed so hard and was far too difficult to beat. I regret buying this game and I'm uninstalling it at this time.

Terrible gameplay. Timing is totally off and not fun to play. There were even hard to control if I wanted a high or low punch. Just terrible. I just managed one match then needed to close the game. But Ilike the graphics.

Punch Out... but with hookers and booze between fights. Very fun game, but quite difficult. Seems like my fighter is always turning purple from exhaustion. Lil Mac seemed to have more endurance. Maybe because he wasn't up all night drinking at the strip clubs. Timing for hits and dodges takes some practice, but it's fun once you get the hang of it.

VanillaBeast sound more like VanillaBeta. I don't know why they didn't hit up Gyp. Crusader. He would have been perfect. Other than that, great game!

Punch, Kick, Repeat… And Laugh Your Head Off VanillaBeast: Retro Knock-Out! is exactly what happens when someone spills pure 90s arcade energy into a blender, adds a splash of chaos, and sprinkles in a ridiculous amount of absurdity. I didn’t just play this game—I survived it… barely, and my sides still hurt from laughing. The gameplay is fast, furious, and gloriously over-the-top. Every punch, kick, and spinning attack feels weighty and satisfying, and enemies fly across the screen in ways that defy both physics and common sense. It’s like the game took classic beat-’em-ups, injected them with energy drinks, and then challenged you to survive the chaos without crying from laughter. And the soundtrack? Pure retro adrenaline. I half expect someone to burst in and shout, “YOU’VE BEEN TRAINING TOO HARD!” every time I land a combo. The visual style is a perfect homage to retro pixel art, but with that modern polish that makes the explosions, blood splats, and ridiculous enemy animations pop. Seriously, I’ve never seen a chicken throw a fireball… until now. The enemy designs are hilarious, the bosses are insane, and the sheer ridiculousness of some moves will leave you grinning like …
