Mass destruction and newt goodness awaits you in Volcanewt!
Play as the Volcanewt, a volcanic salamander ready to destroy the World Wide Defense Force(WWDF) for leeching off his volcanic energy. In this action packed city destruction game, you go across the 3 Hawiwi Islands, a tropical archipelago that on any other day would be a tropical paradise to visit. These three islands are Beginners Bay, a tourist hotspot where our newt makes their humble beginnings, to Hawiwi Resort, a beautiful resort with a more mustered militia to defend against the Volcanewt, to Mamba Metropolis, a metropolis that also acts as the WWDF's main headquarters.
In Volcanewt, to complete each level you must fill out your destruction meter, a tool to determine how much of the city you have annihilated, and claim back your thermal energy from the clusters of the WWDF in the form of destroying powerplants. Doing so will further unlock the Volcanewt's dormant powers.
These powers consist of a thermally powered charge, a fireball projectile, and a beam for destruction on a massive scale.
The WWDF won't allow their cities to be destroyed that easily though, as they droves of soldiers to fend you off, and the creations of General Hugh Gexplosion to further halt the Volcanewt's Advance.
Play as the massive Volcanewt, destroy the cities to progress, and unlock abilities that will aid in the total destruction of the WWDF!

"Volcanewt" is more of a tech demo than a real game. As the store page blurb says, you control a newt/salamander thing and trash a low poly city made up of really bad low poly assets. More of a sandbox than a game, and not much of a sandbox either. This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're designing games for. It's the responsibility of the developer to ensure the game runs well on the platform they're selling it on, with the primary peripherals that PC gamers use. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Truly a one of a kind emotional roller-coaster. The symbolism between Volcanewt and the quest to take back your lava from the evil WWDF was so intricate and deep. The final battle (no spoilers) and its reflection of facing the dark parts of yourself the evil world around us tries to create leads to emotional story telling that needs to dialogue to convey. A seemingly simple game that hides themes that can leave even the most experienced gamer sympathizing with Volcanewt and leave them in tears.2 found this helpful

Stomping around as a kaiju is almost always fun, and even tho this has some issues, I still had a nice time. Your Newt has several city smashing abilities, like a dash, lavabreath, and a drop roll. Eat people to heal, and do enough damage to the city to progress. The difficulty is pretty low, as I didn't even drop below 75% health till the last level, unfortunately the biggest challenge is the physics. You get stuck on....everything...frequently, sometimes floating in midair over seemingly nothing...you can wiggle out of this, but it is annoying how much it happens. Some hitboxes on buildings are also weird. Another smaller issue is the optional score quests, as you have a limited time to get to an objective and destroy it...but it can be too limited, sometimes giving mere seconds to get several blocks over and trash a tower...you don't need to do these to progress, but it's also annoying. The game has 4 levels. Having accidentally skipped the albatross boss, I won in about 40min. If wonky physics make you pull your hair out, you might not have a good time, but I got to wreck hawaii as a cute giant slimy dude, so I'm happy!
This is a great concept and i love the idea and it was kinda fun smashing buildings. However the dodgy mechanics just ruined the game for me, i kept getting stuck and objects and the controls felt a little unresponsive. If the mechanics were tightened up i could definitely re review the game but for now i can't recommend it.
