About Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot

✦ AI summary

Build and command a fully customizable squad of up to 10 Dwarves through roguelike battles where victory is decided before combat even starts—by carefully positioning your party, assigning roles, and countering enemy formations. Expand your army from two poorly-equipped recruits into a legendary legion through strategic gear upgrades and permanent unlocks, with every run teaching new tactics as enemies grow deadlier and demand different defensive and disruptive answers.

Build and command your fully customizable army of Dwarves in this medieval fantasy mix of RPGs, roguelikes and auto battlers! Prepare formations, assign roles, and lead your group through dangerous encounters like a raid leader planning the next pull. Decide the fate of up to 10 individual Beardlings as they chase Glory, risk Death, and fight for humongous amounts of Loot!
Your run starts small, with only two poorly equipped Dwarves and limited options. Battle by battle, you expand your group, upgrade gear, and refine your setup - slowly turning a fragile party into a full-fledged legion ready to take on increasingly dangerous encounters!
Every Dwarf can be shaped into a distinct party-member through gear and equipment. Build sturdy frontline tanks to hold the line, deadly damage dealers to tear through enemies with meele combat, or fragile but powerful mages that need protection. Only a well-balanced group will survive once the fight begins.
Battles play out automatically, so the real challenge happens before the fight begins. Choose the right formation and position for your Dwarves as you are preparing for specific enemy threats, often deciding the outcome long before the first blow is struck.
After each battle, you choose how to proceed. Gain experience, invest gold into better equipment, or recruit new Dwarves to strengthen your group. Every choice pushes your run in a different direction, and not every path leads to survival.  Unlock permanent upgrades with Gems and strengthen your company for future runs with completely different playstyles and builds.  As your party grows stronger, enemies become more numerous and more dangerous. Different enemy setups demand different answers. Reinforce your frontline against heavy pressure or disrupt dangerous backline threats before they overwhelm your group, you make the call.
Facing different enemy configurations, adjust your legion's equipment and positions in a timely manner. Increase your frontline defenses if the enemy is launching a lot of assaults. If the enemy has numerous mages, focus on disrupting their backline. Only with correct tactics can you increase your chances of winning.
Simply stacking stats is rarely enough. Learning enemy patterns, adjusting formations, and refining your group composition are key to surviving tougher encounters. Each run teaches you something and rewards those who adapt. Build your group, prepare for the next encounter, accept losses, and push your Dwarves as far as they can go in the pursuit of Glory, Death, and Loot!

No manual or instructions. Unfinished game! Game starts out ok but if you dont get lucky or store certain items when you get them you wont get to progress to the end. The gem layout is so stupid, like a half baked idea that never came together. This game should not have been released as it is - its beta at best. The money in the game makes no sense - one minute your team is cruising along then next minute you cant win a fight and the money for the fight is less than the ones you just did.

I am fully addicted to this game. The myriad ways to set up your team and the rune circle alterations you can make keep me coming back to this game loop over and over to try new methods of beating the game

This isn't so much a review as it is a 'fair warning' to those who are expecting a quick bit of fun on the cheap that offers its rewards quickly. Dwarves: Glory, Death and Loot (DGDL) is a massive time sink with little to no reward other than overcoming one’s personally set challenges. This game surprised me. I expected an auto-battler with roguelike elements in terms of which dwarves you get to pick, as well as the gear — and those parts are true. However, I was taken aback by how much emphasis is placed on the game’s economy. Money and Gems matter in DGDL a lot more than anything else. Money allows you to buy dwarves and gear, upgrade the shop so that it offers better versions of the previous two, and as such should be hoarded as much as it is spent. Gems allow you to add permanent upgrades to your dwarves, such as improved odds of landing a critical hit. There’s a delicate balance to this game’s economy, and if you don’t “get it,” you’re in for a rough time. There’s also a huge grind (especially regarding gems). It will literally take tens of hours to unlock any combination of things that feel impactful, and even then, your progress will be heavily swayed by the quality of dw…

Addictive gameplay loop had me happily spending hours trying out new party combinations. I quite enjoy the game and would have happily left a positive review if it wasn't for those ANNOYING ADS FOR SUPPORTER PACK AND ANOTHER GAME ON MENU SCREEN. Ads are huge (at least on steam deck screen, idk how it's shown on pc), ugly and cover way too much of otherwise decent looking menu. Yes, you can click them off, but the eyesore returns next time you decide to open the game. It's pissing me off enough that I'm leaving what is my second review in 11 years on steam. If ads ever get removed I'll change it to a positive review, but for now it stays what it is.
