I played Wars and Warriors: Joan of Arc when I was still figuring out who I wanted to be, and somehow this little strategy-action game stuck with me all these years. It’s not the most polished RTS ever made. The mechanics are simple, the AI can be rough and it definitely shows its age. But stepping into Joan’s role, leading troops, rallying soldiers and pushing back against impossible odds felt powerful in a way I didn’t expect as a kid. Wars and Warriors captured Joan's bravery and stubbornness in her beliefs. Guiding her through missions made me think about leadership and conviction and also what it meant to stand firm when everyone doubts you. I had studied that same historical period in school, so it felt great to learn more about her history and tribulations. For a young, impressionable player, that meant a lot. It may not be a masterpiece by today’s standards, but it was formative for me. Joan of Arc became more than a character; she was a role model. And that’s something I’ll always appreciate and treasure about this game.

Maturing means realizing that this is possibly one of the best video games in history.

Maybe it just aged poorly, but now I don't think it was ever a good game. The RPG part is so residual with only few statistics to boost and limited managing equipment. It struggles with RTS elements, especially when the AI is so dumb. A pathfinding barely works, every tree or fence can be an impassable barrier. Sometimes the game is just fun but it's too simple and repetitive to keep positive feeling until the very end. With eight missions I had enough after fourth. The nostalgia is crucial here and it's the only reason why I finished the game. I can't recommend it to anyone unless you like some woody, clunky oldtimers. There are many better games than this one.

The graphics aged well, I like the music and the mechanics, combat, inventory, scenarios etc. are pretty enjoyable. But, the bad, the AI and the horses are torture, the AI pathfinding has the capabilities of a headless cockroach and the horse tries to kill you with its bad controls. Fences, rocks and other stuff block the path in a nonsensical way. Dialogue's mid. Plus there are some annoying bugs. Nostalgia aside, can't recommend.
