"Whack-a-Vote: Hammering the Polls" is a garbage political satire game with no real substance or interest as a serious or genuinely made game. I've said it before and I'll say it again, politics has no place in gaming, and yet every now and then terrible devs will try get rich and famous by shoving it down the throats of gamers. Not okay. This is just a Fischer-Price baby activity playset with a political skin on it. Look around a small environment in VR and play a couple of politically themed minigames. Or don't. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. Whack-a-Vote: Hammering the Polls is a wonderfully absurd, highly chaotic VR political satire that works as a perfect 30-minute arcade distraction. Released as a free passion project right before the historic 2016 US Presidential Election, the premise is simple: democracy is apparently a literal game of whack-a-mole, and you must cast your vote by smashing caricatured candidates in the face.Before entering the polling booth, you sign a registration form with a giant crayon, and then you are thrown straight into a fast-paced dexterity test. The gameplay utilizes tracked motion controllers to let you swing distinct voting implements—ranging from standard hammers to ridiculous chunks of meat—at targets popping out of slots. To fund your frantic swinging, a slot machine directly fed by the IRS dispenses taxpayer money right in front of you. While the hit detection is slightly floaty and the game lacks haptic controller rumble, the sheer mechanical panic makes it hilarious to mess around with.
