About Whisper of Y'Ryando

《Whisper of Y'Ryando》 is a Lovecraftian puzzle-solving game that showcases a layered papercraft aesthetic. Its narrative approach employs a purely fragmented storytelling method, rooted in the core principle of TOC (Theory of Clues) - where the acquisition of clues is not the focus, but rather the organization and piecing together of those clues. In this game, players will uncover the ongoing stories of the town through a unique perspective, acquiring hundreds of clue fragments by rolling dice. They must then piece together the truth and decide the ultimate outcome of the story.Acquire hundreds of different clues to comprehend this world full of transformations, lies, and abnormalities from multiple dimensions.
The unique layered papercraft scenes bring a dreamlike experience, but beware, some secrets may also be hidden within the scenes."Who am I? Do you remember my name?" Through the acquisition and synthesis of clues, find the truth and witness the doomed end in the game process of endless repetition.Attention:Since subtle implications are an integral part of the gaming experience, encompassing but not limited to the content of the script, gameplay process, and aesthetic packaging, the gaming experience may be more abstract compared to commonly available works on the market. It is possible that during the gameplay, you may encounter difficulties in understanding the progression of the game. Please take note before purchasing!!!

It's not easy to find concrete information about this game (in English), so this review is mainly to explain the structure and objectives of the game, not my personal opinion. If you'd rather go into it with the full mystery experience, don't read this. If this is too vague, there are Steam guides that explain everything, including how to complete the game. There are 2 main ways to progress in the game: 1) Collect the dice. 2) Solve the riddle. Collecting dice happens automatically by just playing the game. The story takes the form of a time loop that you can repeat endless times. You can't fail, you can just take more or less time to finish it. Once you collect all the dice, it takes the randomness out of the game. You can explore what you want, when you want, allowing you to make progress on the riddle. The riddle is very obscure. It's like if I said "this is a really hard riddle" and then handed you a dictionary. Of the dozens of ways to combine clues, most of them aren't relevant, and the information you need to solve the riddle is not entirely in the "clues". The tutorial says that the red text is important but there's not enough of it to give you a concrete direction. …

A mix of puzzle and interactive fiction. You must create a narrative from fragments using dice and combining clues. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/48D5hyVfGPI This gameplay is very unique. To uncover the plot/read the full story, you must complete several game cycles. Hints divided into six main types. The type of clue is indicated by its color and the symbol in the upper right corner of its text card. You can see these symbols on the dice. Initially, you receive a few hints and can only roll one die. Then, more dice rolled, and you can choose which of the rolled dice will be used. If you roll a die that allows you to combine two clues to create a new story fragment, two round slots will appear on the screen. The game highlights the clues that can be placed in these slots. Select any of them, and the game will highlight the clues that can be combined with the one already placed.

What a nice game! An amazing story and an even better way to tell it. You are rolling dice for small pieces of information. At first, it feels completely random, but the more you progress, the more you piece things together and eventually you know what to look for and you push certain subjects to discover more. This is a truly brilliant way to tell a cosmic horror story. You don't just read or see that your character is confused, you are confused yourself. You experience the confusion, the fear, the discovery first hand. The game is filled with a mix of "ah-ha" moments and horrified "omg". It is both satisfying and terrifying to understand the story. This is both an excellent game and a fascinating inspiration for storytelling. I fear that, compared to this, all other cosmic horror games will never feel quite as immersive. 100% worth the price.

Whisper of Y’Ryando is an experimental narrative puzzle game developed by IndieCain in collaboration with YuetXD and published by IndieCain, and it is a title that very deliberately challenges conventional expectations of storytelling and gameplay structure. Rather than guiding players through a clearly defined plot or a sequence of traditional puzzles, the game presents itself as an abstract mystery that must be slowly uncovered through observation, interpretation, and synthesis. From the very beginning, it establishes an atmosphere of uncertainty and unease, inviting players into a strange town where truth is fragmented, reality feels unstable, and understanding is something earned through patience rather than handed over through exposition. The most immediately striking element of Whisper of Y’Ryando is its visual identity. The game adopts a distinctive papercraft-inspired art style that gives environments and characters a handcrafted, almost storybook quality, while simultaneously feeling fragile and uncanny. This aesthetic choice reinforces the game’s themes of distortion and layered realities, as if the world itself were something folded together from incomplete memories and…

美术音乐玩法都不错。就是没有明确的目标或者方向指引,导致玩过了之后需还是很迷茫,一周目之后仍然purposeless是主要的问题。

Great story, even though some translation is a bit rough. Excellent atmosphere, really nails that old Cultist sim feel. Would really benefit from some QoL features, like the ability to skip early stages after beating the game, to make getting all the lore less of a grind.
