About WWII Squad Level Land Battles ssp
A Wargame for Grognards, its a little bit complicated for the average user. it is chits representing the units . the combat is decided by dice rolls and modifiers. It is 2D topdown. with a fantastic A.I.

I have played about 30 minutes of this game and I feel like I've seen everything. Even so, it's all here, you just need to let the developer cook and you'll have a fun game. The graphics are simple yet elegant, although there are certain items in the environment that are difficult to discern. On the first mission, in the Southern portion of the screen, there are pixelated blobs that may or may not be dead or living livestock. The unit markers are nice and as a whole, the environments are pleasant if sometimes confusing to look at. The UI is a mess of numbers and words with little explanation. There doesn't appear to be enough info. Terrain effects seem abstracted or barely present, there needs to be better line of sight and height indicators. Stuff is bare bones, for now. As for the gameplay, I think there is only a single move command (no "sneak" "slow" etc. that you see elsewhere), which is fine. I find that playing with the animations both on and off can be a pleasant experience. How can I tell if I'm in cover? This game FEELS good. The bones are there, but it needs some work. It was free, and I'll be checking it out more in the future. Don't let my negativity frighten you…4 found this helpful
I honestly can see the potential of this game, for all the fans of hardcore turn based games and of board table games. But to be honest it is not my cup of tea. In any case I enjoy supporting this type of stuff and small indie developers so thumbs up for the developer (Mark Ainsworth) and it's hard work.2 found this helpful
"WWII Squad Level Land Battles ssp" is an old school tabletop turn based strategy game that uses little "cardboard" chits to represent military units in a strategic simulation covering World War 2 battles. These games can work very well when implemented well... take a look at HOI4 if you want an example that was both successful and a game I'd recommend you try instead of this. This game failed, not because of the welcome level of depth or theme, but the preposterously lazy technical implementation that would look awful in 1994, and looks even worse today. The graphics here are particularly awful, extremely primitive text heavy UI and game visuals and units that look like they were done with MS-Paint, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mob…1 found this helpful

It is what it is. It is a squad based tactical combat game. If you like that kind of game then this is a good fun game. It's not great and it's not big but seems to be pretty solid little game. Well worth a try. I'm hoping it continue to grow, I think it could turn into something really good.1 found this helpful
