She Could Fly: Documentary Escape Game

Pros: -The artwork sprinkled into each level is great . -While the game-play is mostly a walking simulator with some very light puzzles. It was still engaging enough. -Voice acting was brilliant. Cons -The controls were a bit odd. You get used to it but not sure why they couldn't just have implemented free movement. -The game is incredibly short. I must admit I stopped watching the videos after the first loop, I think the voice actor was providing a much better insight into the mechanics of the illness anyway. I would have preferred less videos and more game-play. Overall unless you have a particular interest in OCD, I'd probably only recommend on a steep discount.

When I first saw the title of this game I found myself scratching my head. Documentary Escape Game? What a clumsy mouthful! Surely there is a better description that is not so abstract. And yet, after playing it, I realize that there is literally no other way to describe this. I am not sure if there has actually been a Documentary Escape Game before, but that is exactly what this is. A kind of escape room game where you make it further in the narrative by watching documentary videos. They invented a new genre of video game, and for that I am impressed. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this. Before now, I did not know a great deal about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so it was very eye-opening for me as a complete outsider. Folks who suffer from OCD or who care for an affected loved one might have a different perspective, but I found this effective as a sort of OCD 101 course. The way that the gameplay and the narrative complement one another is my favorite part. I see a lot of people in the reviews absolutely blasting the narrator for being annoying or a bad fit for the game, but I think that they are missing the point. Cute educational puzzle game about what it's like to live with OCD. The puzzles and story were alright. I don't have OCD, so I cant speak for how accurate it is, but it has some nice videos between the puzzles to educate you. The biggest fault of the game is the annoying controls. Click to move to pre-marked locations and hold click to look around. Whoever decided to go with that should be shot.

An immersive and informative game experience that really touches on the experiences of OCD. The artwork spread across the apartment were great and see to find and I feel I've learnt more about the reality of OCD as well as the stigmas around it. I feel this experience can encourage those with OCD to feel seen and understand how to get support while those without can be more emphatic and better understand how to navigate the behaviours noticed with loved ones with OCD.
