Overall, the game isn't bad. It has a good storyline, a variety of weapons, and the game itself is quite good, but it's not without its flaws. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have saves as such, meaning if you and your partner die, you'll have to start the entire level from scratch. There's a pretty good co-op mode, but the save quirks can make the game feel a bit boring when you're constantly replaying the same level. My rating: ✭✭✭✰✰

Preamble: I guess "someone" of the developers played too much MINESWEEPER in his life (HINT). Mines are taking a serious amount of the gameplay, better know how to deal with them and LEARN patience... Review: Serious Sam: Bogus Detour is a top-down spin-off of the classic Serious Sam games. The basic concept remains the same: fight your way through hordes of enemies, only this time from an overhead perspective. The gameplay itself can be fun, but the difficulty is extremely frustrating—even on Easy. The final bosses are a real nightmare to deal with, and the global achievement completion rates say a lot about how unforgiving this game can be. You can find stars throughout the levels to upgrade abilities, weapon stats, health, and armor. However, even with a fully upgraded character, the game remains brutally difficult. The achievement requirements make matters worse. For example, one achievement requires you to find two secret documents in the Troja level. After finally collecting them, you can rush toward the next checkpoint, die beforehand, and lose all your progress. Having to repeat that entire section is incredibly frustrating. The lack of a map is another major issue. So…

Quite fun, but it uses a lives system that makes failure extremely irritating, especially with the low view distance, the humongous levels, and the lack of a map.

Very tedious game with an especially tedious final boss fight. Levels are far too big and long; combined with the extra life system it makes the game a chore to play through as you can get near the end of a long level only to lose your last life and have to redo the entire thing all over again as save states don't exist (this happened to me multiple times on the final level alone, it was awful). I would've finished this in fewer hours if not for those. If it wasn't for the aforementioned, then despite some of the design gripes I have with Bogus Detour as a Serious Sam spin-off it would be a decent time, but it's unfortunately not that way so expect serious tedium.

Way better than i expected I didn't expect much for a old spin off game of SS but oh wow i was pleasantly suprised how fun this game turned out to be, i never realized how well SS's gameloop formula fits in a Top Down Shooter perspective, we need more games like this. Easily one of the best SS games ever made.
