Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter is the best game in the Serious Sam series. It has the strongest visual design, level design, and gameplay. This is not nostalgia speaking. My first Serious Sam game was The Second Encounter, and I only finished The First Encounter after playing many other games in the series.
Serious Sam The First Encounter is an absolute FPS masterpiece and one of my all time favorite first person shooters, right alongside Doom. I’ve played both the HD remake and the original classic version, but I always come back to the classic because the gameplay, atmosphere, and overall feel are simply unmatched. The classic version has a unique charm that the HD remake couldn’t fully capture. Some gameplay elements, enemy behavior, and the old school atmosphere feel different, and for me, they’re what make the original so special. Every level throws massive hordes of enemies at you, forcing you to keep moving, manage your weapons, and think fast. Even on Normal difficulty, the game is surprisingly challenging, but that’s exactly what makes it so addictive and rewarding. Every victory feels earned, and the fast paced combat never gets old. If you love old school FPS games like Doom and Duke Nukem, or if you grew up during the golden age of classic shooters like I did, then Serious Sam The First Encounter is a game you absolutely need to experience. It’s a timeless masterpiece that proves great gameplay never gets old. 9/10
The miracle of Serious Sam is the execution: it never feels boring, you are always on the edge, the enemy placement is perfect. I played this vanilla on win11 and it worked but I couldn't use my native resolution. So I had to use the second biggest resolution. No further tinkering needed.
So nostalgic!!!
I NEED AMMO!!!
I you like challenging shooter this a game for you.
