PAC-MAN™ CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2

What a complete and utter downgrade from the first game in EVERY aspect. The terrible gaudy visual effects are one thing, the lackluster customization that lacks ALL of the legacy references from the first game (pac man arrangement 1996 my beloved) is another. The real problem with this game is EVERY change they made to the actual moment-to-moment gameplay, and all of the problems build on each other to make the game feel like absolute garbage compared to DX+. Making a Pac-Man game at HIGH SPEED requires SOME kind of concession so that the ghosts don't just BEAM right at you, or vice versa on accident. The first game's solution was a slow-mo feature that would automatically activate any time you were about to hit a ghost, and it felt a little easy but ultimately fair, it gave you a pretty HEALTHY window to react to the incoming crash, and that IS quite hand-holdy by nature, but it meant when you DID die, it was because you got cornered between two ghosts with nowhere to run, and it really felt like YOUR fault for putting yourself in that scenario. I don't know what I was expecting. It's Pac-Man, but braindead and on steroids. Everything is locked to start with and you are forced through a dozen tutorial levels that feel like getting gold stars for eating paint in kindergarten before you can do anything else. Then you unlock score attack levels and have to beat a dozen or so of those to unlock Adventure mode, which is what I wanted to play to begin with. Except it's not really adventure mode and more of a time trial relay race with less than 10 seconds per stage. It was at that point, just over 2 hours in, that I lost interest and wished I could just play the original Pac-Man. Dots are laid out in convenient linear paths, no thinking or strategy required, you just follow the path as fast as possible and then eat the fruit to advance to the next stage. Occasionally, you also have to eat the ghost trains. Rinse and repeat. And the game is so fast, with so many moving things, so many jumpers and teleporters, and so many flashing visuals that it is easy to lose track of the character and I often had to pause and locate myself to keep going. The 10 second "adventure" stages are not fun, and overall game mechanics felt like gimmic…

Crack-Man 1 better, BUT I fw the soundtrack and wasd support <3

While not as fast-paced or chaotic as Pac-Man CEDX+, this game still has its charm. It's a lot more lax compared to CEDX+. If you want a more casual, less hectic Pac-Man Championship Edition game, this one would probably be for you. Otherwise I'd recommend CEDX+
