Weyrdlets 2.0 : Desktop Pets

Weyrdlets - overloaded with onboarding guidance, pushed unlocking, meta progression, daily activities, DLC, and in every activity area I joined, it locked up into a state where character control got lost, it zooms out, and nothing happens anymore; an area soft-lock.

One of my favorite productivity tools :) I hope Steam lifts the profile feature limits soon though, that’s my only issue with it. I’ve played Ropuka, Tiny Farm, and Little Aviary, but the features in this game are better for studying/WFH. Pros: + adjustable Pomodoro timer + non-invasive desktop buddy + highly customizable

It started as a simple desktop pet with a to-do list and a timer and mutated into this massive thing that had little to do with productivity and feels more like some hybrid between a hyperactive Tamagotchi that needs constant attention and a farming/activity sim. Since introducing all those activities, the farming and fishing, it lost its "relaxing" tag for me, and got an "FOMO" tag instead. The achievement nearly doubled, from 32 to 62, since I bought it, which shows how much more content there is for an "idle" and "relaxing" game. If you like to constantly fuss over a digital pet and do all the activities, then this “game” is for you. If you want something that holds you accountable with a to-do list, a timer, and a body double, go somewhere else. This is not for you. I, for my part, want my Tamagotchi back - It was a way simpler pet and not half as annoying.

Game is cute but most of the features need some tweaking. Got stuck in the tutorial a couple of times, first my apple disappeared and i couldn't figure out why i was stuck petting my pet, then it asked me to open my orchard but i wasn't level 1 which is needed to open it. The UI is very wonky, not very intuitive. I tried the ball race thign and whenever i finished the track and press restart, my pet starts at the finish line, and that happens even in the weekly competition mode! I just got a 0.57 sec record in a multiplayer mode due to a glitch and there's no way for me to fix it. So yeah. A very cute idea, and it reminds me a lot of a 21st century Petz, but the execution is definitely not there yet.

Weyrdlets has been an absolute delight ever since I started! If you're lookin' for an easy and relaxing little desktop buddy, you'll enjoy Weyrdlets! If you're lookin' for something that'd remind you of older online games like club penguin or moshi monsters, you'll love it too! There's so much customization, so much furniture for your little area to unlock n' look forward to and I'm still unlocking new stuff daily! My biggest issue comes from the fact that not enough people play it - so the online capabilities like the playground or Worble (this game's cute little monkey-ball platformer race minigame) end up pretty empty - but thankfully, other players aren't necessary for you to do things like daily tasks or to have fun with the games anyways. I'm looking forward to future updates for this, ESPECIALLY for that cute new Wasabi pet comin' up! And hopefully some more people to play with, too! I have no idea why anyone would want to pay for this. The UI is awful, menus hidden inside other menus. Performance is really bad given how basic the game looks. It feels like a bad mobile game that they're charging money for.
