Keeper's Toll

[b]KEEPER'S TOLL[/b] is a great mix between survivors-like and ARPG. It features a wide cast of classes and features the same key features of a survivors-like, that means, plenty of mobs, in-run merchants, ton of attacks. It also incorporates ARPG elements very well with unique bullet hell bosses, limited healing potions and a minor quest system. It is more challenging than most in it's genre, which is a good thing. However, this fact is exacerbated by the game's poor balancing. Melee classes are far, far weaker than ranged one, making bosses take tens of minutes. While classes such as the Blood Maiden walk through the game with little resistance. While there are a wide range of attacks/weapons, the roguelike aspect is very lost in the game. You will very likely pick up every attack in a run, and upgrades are not "randomised" so it makes every run exactly the same. Next, meta-progression is well-paced, letting you complete character skill trees in a good amount of time. It also has a global skill tree that forces you into picking your points, instead of being able to unlock it all. However, there are very clear winners in that tree so most of that tree will not see play anyway. If …

A REAL BANGER

It's beautiful; it's clear the developer loves Dark Souls. The levels are deep, even if they're few, but that's its drawback. The limited number of levels and characters could be a positive or negative point depending on your perspective.

A bit like a worse version of Halls of Torment with "inspirations" (that are so close you could call it a carbon copy) of Dark Souls enemies/bosses and other contents. The classes are kind of "meh", but at least a bit varied. Graphics are retro and ok, but also quite boring to look at. Powerups and skills are a bit lacking and i never got the feeling of really going anywhere and becoming incredibly powerful. Some mechanics are kind of weird and unexplained too. Content-wise its also lacking, considering other similar games cost about as much and offer far more. No shame in general, if it was super fun, but again, i found it "meh" and wanted to rather play another game of this kind instead. I got it cheap and still kind of feel unsure about it. Would say "No", considering its asking about 7€ and rather tell you to buy something else for that.

[i]Delivers on Survivor-Like Gameplay[/i] Keeper’s Toll is a simple and solid Survivor-Like game. It uses both rouge-like style ARPG inter-run progression and well as some permanent progression sinks. There are numerous characters types to select from helping add a bit more variety to the experience. Character "builds" in the traditional sense don't really apply here; as on level up you will be selecting 1 out of 3 randomly assigned skills from the characters total skill pool. Graphically, the sprite art is a nice highlight and is well done. Three out of the four levels are infinite in all directions; which I wish wasn’t the case. I think even a partially constrained environment with some kind of map would have been a lot better. In general, greater detail on character sheet for player damage, stat effects and other bonuses should have been implemented. Similarly, there are these debuffs/negative effects present in the game called Curses and the specifics of each of these is not explained anywhere in the game. You also cannot see which ones are currently in-effect anywhere outside of when you initially receive it. This information needed to be in some sort of codex and/or a g…
