Myths of Rules

I legitimately wanted to like this game, and I really did my best to play as much of it as I could before I ultimately gave up. The problem starts with the tutorial. It sets up this cool mechanic that's literally never used ever again, and I kind of feel cheated on that front. What you actually get is a game where every level has wildly different mechanics that you need to learn from scratch, which could have been fine. I mean, I was willing to put up with it. But the "choose your own adventure" nature to the game meant that the majority of the endings don't feel rewarding. In fact it often felt like I was being tricked into making mistakes that wasted my time. And don't get me started on the quicktime events. Maybe that's why I'm ultimately salty. Solving the puzzles didn't make me feel accomplished; it just made me feel like I avoided punishment. And I can't abide by that.

Myth of rules is a clever little game that is somewhere halfway between a visual novel and an oldschool 8-bit adventure game. The focus is on narrative and ambiance, and the usage of diagrams for everything manages to instillate an interesting mood to the game all the while presenting a novelty aspect for the gameplay side. The different episodes all offer several endings that you have to discover through manipulations. It's not really about solving an adventure, but more about discovering fates, more like a literary exploration if you want. There are good and bad endings but there is no real advantage of ones over the others. I'd say this is a nice mix between narrativism and gameism. The manipulations require restarting the story several times, and trying different combinations, but this isn't as tedious as it sounds, in fact not tedious at all, and you can abuse the save function to create checkpoints. It's better not to try to unlock all of the conclusions unless you're really a completionist and have a lot of patience. I overflew the episodes without digging too much except for a couple. The game concept is interesting, there is a lot of content and levels. It is just poorly designed, giving either too much information at once, confusing at times (maybe because the original language apparently is not english, and the translation feels weird?), or not enough to reach certain endings. If there is a change to the way the clues are given, and sometimes to the clues themselves, then the game will be more fun to play. When I began playing it I was quite excited, but got pretty bored after trying several times same level to have a different outcome (I got only 4 out of the 7 endings on this one) and not succeeding. Then I played some of the others which are way longer, getting even less endings. After a while I was not interested anymore in reading new clues and just wanted to fully open up the paths to see what could be done or not. Some things I think could be changed: - Give an introduction to each level. When the level begins you have no idea of what is going on or what you are supposed to do. An introduction to the main story might create the attention and interest in going further to solve puzzles and reaching different endings. - Place only a few clues per tim…

very fun word play puzzle game.. some issues with translations for getting acheivements but It's very unique

While I'd be willing to give a bit of a free pass for a small developer when it comes to getting the very latest levels translated, you can run into untranslated text as early as the second (non-tutorial) level. I'm not sure you can meaningfully consider the game to be available in English because of that.
