Ghostwire: Tokyo

Forgot to write review for this game so here it is: Ghostwire Tokyo is a game with nice art direction, but rather bland and boring. I was playing hoping that it will get better (almost felt that it will be) but it never does. Gameplay is basically you being sort of a mage fighting spirits and demons from japanese folklore. You have 3 elements that you can compare to automatic rifle, shotgun and rocket launcher and a bow (basically a sniper rifle). Sounds fun but combat is rather boring because most enemies are bulletsponges and restocking ammo is tedious.There is also a very simple stealth mechanic but i didnt bother to use it a lot. World is beatiful and some places really got me interested, like city underground section and big vertical buildings. Huge props to city design! WIth a little bit of skill you can climb everything and get rewarded for it. But still, world map is made in style of Ubisoft meaning its clattered with lots of collectibles, side quests, shrines (basically vantage points from assasin creed), etc. But more doesnt mean better. Really wasn't sure about this game at first, played a bunch then dropped it. Recently went back to it and have had a really great time. Runs great under Linux, runs pretty good on Steam Deck. It's quirky, it's Japanese, it tells some very emotive stories. At times I felt like I was in a frantic FPS, other times I felt I was playing MGS with the sneaking about. The presentation in the game was outstanding, and the variation of enemies and boss fights was great. There are parts that remind me very much of Control. Now that I've rolled credits, I will keep this in the gaming rotation to go mop up the remaining side content as well as dip my toes into the spider's thread rogue like. My only two gripes: it stores the graphics settings in Steam Cloud, which means that running it on a 4080 then going to Steam Deck and back, requires a bunch of settings tweaking. The other gripe is that with a controller, the aiming is a bit janky. There is some auto-aim assists settings, but I kept wishing there was a proper lock on, but that might have made the game a bit too easy.

The game is OK, but after the initial push, its best to be enjoyed in 2 hours play-sessions, because it does get stale. Its a shame, because i do like the idea of these smaller scale AA games, but this one kind of isn't it. 7 out of 10

A great game that gives you lots to do and the rewards for doing a completion run are well worth it.
