Capcom took a franchise that was bleeding out through a wound of its own making (RE6 was a disaster, RE5 was a colonial mess) and pivoted it into first-person survival horror with the confidence of someone who knows the original recipe still works. RE7 is a reset button that actually respects the fanbase instead of ignoring them. The shift to first-person is the whole game — it makes ammo scarcity feel claustrophobic, puzzle-solving intimate, and the Baker family actually terrifying because you're at their eye level in their dingy mansion instead of orchestrating some third-person power fantasy. That change alone rebuilds the tension that the franchise abandoned around 2009. The atmosphere is oppressive (swamps, decay, isolation), the horror is grungy and grotesque rather than action-movie spectacle, and Ethan Winters' voicelessness (he doesn't speak) leaves room for you to be the protagonist instead of watching some dude react. The story beats are solid Southern Gothic horror — deranged family, body horror, psychological breakdown — wrapped in the RE formula without feeling like cosplay. Terrifying as hell while still managing to feel like fighting actually matters, the bakers make for terrifying villains to the end (although in a different way at the end) and that final twist was crazy but still felt well set up solidly one of the best games in the series for me

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard — это просто ужас. Я давно так не пугалась в игре. Этот дом, узкие коридоры, постоянное ощущение, что сейчас кто-то выскочит. У меня арахнофобия, и некоторые моменты были вообще невыносимые. Плюс эта вечная грязь, плесень, жуки, всё какое-то липкое и мерзкое. Семейка Бейкеров вообще ненормальная, каждый по-своему псих. Скримеров очень много, и даже когда вроде бы тихо, всё равно сидишь в напряжении. После прохождения осталось ощущение, будто сама побывала в этом доме. Очень страшная игра, но именно этим она и цепляет.

This resident evil was a breath of fresh air after playing the more action oriented entries in the series. I almost kind of missed the more survival horror aspect of the RE2 remake so to see that come back in this entry in a big way was a great (and horrifying) feeling. I almost want to say that this is better overall than the Resident Evil 2 remake because the feeling of “nope, don’t wanna go there” started right at the very beginning. Seeing the old run down house invoked a level of uneasiness that I rarely get in a game. The last game to make me feel like that was Dead Space. Let’s get into all the pieces that make this game great and some nitpicks that almost ruin my immersion. First off, the graphic, environmental art, and the characters contribute greatly to the the horror aspect of this. The first person view of seeing this game without a character in the way really made me take in all the creepy, gross, or just downright terrifying things in the game. I wasn’t sure about the first person view at first but it ended up being a pretty good choice that the devs went with for this game.The sound design of the game was done incredibly well.
