FINAL FANTASY VI

DAMN THAT IS PRETTY GOOD

Final boss is the magnum opus of 2d Final Fantasy games. Nobuo Uematsu is a genius. There is a noticeable jump in quality from the previous entries, the first game in a series that made shed a tear.

A truly special game. This is almost everything I wished Final Fantasy IV was. How they packed such an interesting and well fleshed out cast into this game, I have no idea. Celes, Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin, Cyan, Setzer, Strago and Relm are all amazing, Gau is really the only one of the main characters that I didn’t connect with because it felt like we never really learned anything about him, although this could be due to me just missing some side content related to him. It feels like the devs have truly mastered their style of pixel art by now, the amount of emotion they manage to pack into the tiny low definition characters is incredible. Keftka didn’t seem like anything special to me at first but grew on me quickly as I couldn’t help but smile at his ridiculousness. The game manages to build so many story threads while moving between them so gracefully. Almost all of the major characters have one or multiple arcs they are a part of, through changing party composition and visiting places important to each of them these stories move forward while progressing their relationships with the other characters as well. FINAL FANTASY VI ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've played through every Pixel Remaster up until FFVI, and I don't think anything from those games could have prepared me for how massive and ambitious this game was going to be. FFVI took me the longest out of any of the 2D FF games to finish, which is a testament to how much they managed to cram into a 24 megabit Super Nintendo cartridge. Final Fantasy VI feels like the culmination of everything that the developers at Square learned from their previous games... and then some. It has the kind of storytelling that worked so well in FFIV, with even richer character writing and plot progression. It took how party members worked in that game as well, and further elaborated on how each party member could be used in battle by introducing the magicite system. But what I think I loved the most about this game was its full willingness to let the player explore its world and discover its secrets at their own pace. This is especially true during the latter half of the game, where you're entirely free to decide how to progress the story. Played FF6 30 years ago. Still a great classic in this era. Enjoyed it so much. Recommend to new gamers and old FF fans.

Some of the most fun I've had while playing a game in a while! The story is great, it does a fantastic job of keeping you intrigued and wanting to know more. There is a really fun balance of enjoyment and difficulty, with a very nice difficulty curve to get around as well. My two favorite parts of the game are the explorability and characters. The game has so many nice things tucked away in corners of the game that you really need to search for to find, and they are usually well worth the effort. The characters are very well done and the game does a very good job of making you want to care for them as well, each having their own stories and emotions you get to explore, I love it. All in all I would give this game a solid 9/10, I can really see why so many people love this game as much as they do!
