Tomb Raider II (1997) (2012)

Perfecting the formula of the original. This puzzle platformer has all the charm of the 90's and is an instant classic.

This game is simply awesome. If you played the first game, you will have a lot of fun playing this. New mechanics, new weapons and a thrilling story.

it's fun. it is just the first game but with a lot of improvements which makes it stand out a lot. graphically, the game has improvements, it is immdiatly noticable upon staring the game, even more so if you come right off the first and into the second. most notable improvements are that models have more polygons and are able to have more detailed and softer looks, easily seen in lara herself. each area is unique in it's own and memorable, while there is a lot more to explore, it is easy to kind of forget everything because of how much information you are bombarded with each level. gameplay sees a little change. most in the way of new weapons, and some new movement techniques, otherwise it remains mostly similar to the first. music is interesting because the game actually gives you music in game this time, but the closer to the end you get and the more abandoned the areas you visit are, the less music you hear, which is kind of a cool detail to notice. the story is more mystical as opposed to the first, where you are hunting an ancient dagger which turns out can turn one into a dragon. maybe coming off of another maze like game had me noticing that, while the first had a coup…

If you were to ask any longtime Tomb Raider fan what they would consider to be the best game in the series, there's an extremely high chance Tomb Raider 2 will be mentioned and for good reason. Despite being developed in a rush [strike] because Eidos and Sony wanted profits [/strike], TR2 improves on the original in pretty much every way while offering a lot more variety with the levels and environments. While TR1 was (mostly) focused around Egypt, TR2 lets you explore China, Italy, the Adriatic Sea (including an underwater wreck) and Tibet. As you might have guessed, TR2 focuses on Chinese mythology. The Dagger of Xian is a mythical weapon that, when plunged into one's heart, turns that person into a fire-breathing dragon. Lara Croft will have to fight against Marco Bartoli, an Italian mafia boss (that's how it works), that wants this Dagger for power. If you're familiar with Core Design's Tomb Raider, you already know how TR2 plays. Although this game leans a lot more into the action sequences compared to TR1, it still keeps the same exploration and pixel perfect jumps.
