If you're like me and not interested in installing yet another source port that may or may not be faithful to the vanilla game, I recommend using "Tomb Raider Automated Fix" This will patch up the game to run natively in windows, restore music and other things from the playstation version and add the Unfinished Business expansion, all in situ so it still just runs from the original steam installation directory and boots from steam with a nice clean launcher too. You can use steam input to easily map the game's controls to your gamepad. An excellent way to play TR1.3 found this helpful
do not judge this game by modern standards. this is one of the most important video games of all time, and the steam port is terrible.
