Tomb Raider: Anniversary

My second experience on a old Tomb Raider (+10 years ago, my first one was the OG Tomb Raider for the PS1), and i can say it's a good remake but the graphics were downgraded on the PC port compared to the consoles (PS3,XB360), but it doesn't feel bad at all, just quirky controls which you get used to it, and like every other old game, cap it to 60 fps and you won't have any issue.

I really, really tried to like this game, and it is an OK experience as long as you uninstall it when you reach Lost Island and Natla's Mines. The levels are very high quality visually and this title has some amazing large scale puzzles. Egypt surprised me, but that was long after the game already felt like a slog. If you are trying to play through the Reboots just know Anniversary is a PREQUEL to Legend. In my opinion, skip this game and go straight to Underworld (That game is really good!). Anniversary is an empty game story wise, and it's somehow a technical downgrade from Tomb Raider: Legend. Tomb Raider Anniversary is clearly a rushed game that was developed in a year, and it shows. Some levels and puzzles clearly have zero playtesting, and The lost Island is desk smash worthy. If you get to that level just know it's not worth it. You don't have enough time, and it just keeps getting artificially harder from there. If you reach that level just uninstall, watch a playthrough, and you'll thank me later. Tomb Raider Anniversary is a PS2 era platformer/puzzle game (and a remake of a PS1 game) and can be surmised with the following: - amazing level design (the best part of this game) - really good puzzles that take advantage of the above - creepy ambient OST but combat music is lacking - occasional enemy ambushes to keep you on your toes - qte bossfights at the end of each level - very bad story, nonsensical motive and laughable villains - gametime is short and sweet, not wasting your time As this is a 2007 game, there is some inherent jank that comes with it. Controls are for the most part fluid but sometimes Lara will do her own thing and jump to her death. Though frustrating at first it definitely adds to its charm as the game goes, and honestly it plays just like any other old Tomb Raider that I remember - the difference is now I don't have to wait for the disc to load after each death, respawning is instantaneous and checkpoints are frequent. Just get ready to get used to KbM as controller doesn't seem to work. Combat is definitely a sign of its time, as in it's terrible but very easy so it doesn't matter and so are bossfights - either qte or just use the dodge mechanic to one…

Oh boy, I fondly remember this game as being the second game after Tomb Raider Legend, where the franchise finally got back on the proper track, in which you could unlock actually cool costumes by proving your skill and beating levels on time trial instead of paying for costume DLC like in the 2013/2016/2018 reboot games (although these were good games, too, but not real "Tomb Raider" games in my book). I actually haven't played this game in ages, but it's currently on sale for less than 1€ and this is an absolute bargain no matter whether you like Tomb Raider or not -- I would buy this game again if I did not already own it twice -- once on Steam and once as a physical DVD from the time when that was still a thing...

I really enjoyed this game, really great adventures.
