Jolly Rover

Jolly Rover, developed and published by Brawsome, is a traditional point-and-click adventure that leans heavily into humor, character, and classic design sensibilities. Set in a whimsical pirate world inhabited entirely by anthropomorphic dogs, the game follows Gaius James Rover, an unlucky protagonist whose quiet life quickly spirals into a chaotic journey across the high seas. From the very beginning, the game establishes a lighthearted tone, embracing absurdity and wordplay in a way that feels both nostalgic and welcoming. The story is driven less by high-stakes drama and more by its comedic charm. Dialogue is filled with puns, exaggerated personalities, and playful interactions that give the world a lively, almost theatrical quality. Much of the enjoyment comes from simply engaging with the characters and uncovering the small jokes hidden throughout conversations and environmental interactions. While the narrative itself follows a fairly familiar structure—filled with pirate tropes and predictable turns—it maintains interest through its writing and pacing, ensuring that players remain entertained even when the plot doesn’t surprise. While a little wobbly, "Jolly Rover" was made by someone talented. It's a decent-to-good point and click adventure game; the hint system helps the sporadic spotty puzzle. The biggest problem "Jolly Rover" has is the debt it owes "Monkey Island"; even as it tries to step out of its shadow, you can tell it's enamoured of it. While it's hardly essential, I played it all the way through.

I can not recommend buying this at $10. It was pretty cute and not a bad point and click adventure, if you are into that sort of thing, but it wasn't super memorable.

A simple point and click adventure game. Generally speaking, it's fine, but it doesn't do anything especially well; the puzzles are simply ok, though obtuse at times, the humor doesn't land to me, and the story itself is slow to pick up. It's possible it gets better, but fairly early into the game, I was made to not only steal some buried turtle eggs, and leave the rest of them exposed (thus dooming those turtles), but then I was supposed to COOK THE TURTLE EGGS! At that point, I just didn't want to do that, and noped right out of there.

Cool old school point and click adventure. Lighthearted story with decent puzzles and atmosphere. I enjoyed the game!
