Star Trek: Starfleet Academy puts you through over 25 challenging missions commanding 30 different starships to prove you have what it takes to graduate from the galaxy's most prestigious academy. Face iconic scenarios recreated from the Star Trek universe while receiving guidance from Captain Kirk, Commander Chekov, and Captain Sulu themselves.
Kirk, Chekov, Sulu. Before they were legends, they were cadets at the most celebrated training facility in the Universe -- Starfleet Academy!
Now it's your turn. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy includes over 25 missions designed to test your ingenuity, leadership and courage -- and determine if you have what it takes to graduate first in your class. Going where no simulator has gone before, you'll take on 30 of the universe's finest starships, from the cloaking Klingon Bird-of-Prey to the Romulan heavy cruiser. To succeed, you must pass all the simulated missions, from simple combat situations, to a recreation of Kirk's near-disastrous confrontation with Khan Noonien Singh, to the infamous Kobayashi Maru scenario. All the while, Captain Kirk (William Shatner), Commander Chekov (Walter Koenig) and Captain Sulu (featuring a special appearance by George Takei), will be there to provide instruction and inspiration!

Star Trek™: Starfleet Academy has strong nostalgic appeal with players praising its engaging story and meaningful choices, but it suffers from serious Windows 11 compatibility issues that make it unplayable on modern systems for many users. Additionally, players report frustration with the publisher's pricing practices during sales. Those with older systems or willing to troubleshoot extensively may find it worthwhile, but Windows 11 users should avoid it unless compatibility is resolved.
DO NOT buy this game if you have Windows 11! It's completely impossible to play. I truly don't understand how this has as many positive reviews as it does.1 found this helpful
Unfortunately does not run on Windows 11 modern machine. I do not know why Steam continues to sell this product given it no longer works. I have tried all sorts of compatibility troubleshooting, verified files, etc. and no luck. I know this is also no longer flying off the shelves given its age, but a compatibility guide shouldn't be too hard of an ask for those who have previously purchased the product. I loved this game back in the 90s when I had first played it.1 found this helpful

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy remains an intriguing example of how a licensed game can focus on the responsibilities of becoming a Starfleet officer instead of relying entirely on familiar characters and constant action. Developed and published by Interplay Entertainment Corp., it puts the player through Starfleet Academy as a cadet learning how to command Federation starships. Its presentation and technology clearly belong to an earlier generation of PC gaming, but beneath those dated elements is an ambitious combination of space simulation, tactical combat, cinematic storytelling, and classic Star Trek atmosphere. The campaign features more than 25 missions that gradually test different aspects of starship command. Instead of presenting every assignment as a simple battle, the Academy framework allows scenarios to function as examinations of judgment and leadership. Players encounter situations inspired by the wider Star Trek universe, including the famous Kobayashi Maru test and a simulation connected to Kirk's confrontation with Khan.
