Artificer: Science of Magic

Artificer: Science of Magic est un titre qui a su se rendre séduisant, surtout grâce à son univers et son lore très captivant, mais également à sa saveur proche de ce que l’on trouve dans Don’t Starve Together et son ambiance de survie dans un monde particulier. Le problème, c’est qu’il y a beaucoup de mécaniques sont mal expliquées et l’on peut souvent patauger. Il y a également des bugs et des collisions parfois foireuses qui contribuent à casser l’immersion. Fort heureusement, il est finalement très beau graphiquement et propose une vraie atmosphère et un style graphique d’une certaine expérience. Donc en somme, un titre original, beau, mystérieux mais quelque peu brut et pas toujours finalisé sur certain point. (jeu reçu gratuitement après avoir fini un de leurs jeux "Balthazar's Dream" à 100%)

I really wanted to like this game. It has a great premise, set-up, and intro sequence, a fascinating alien ecosystem to explore, and a (mostly) believable magic system. Literally everything I could ask for. But none of that means much when the gameplay and story are so disappointing. In my opinion, the lackluster gameplay would be mostly forgivable if it was my only complaint. The main problems are obscure progression requirements, unexplained combat mechanics, and a seemingly unintentional cheese for the "boss fight". The two biggest failures in the gameplay are how easy it seems to be to softlock yourself out of a required progression pathway (which I managed to do twice), and how frustratingly slow progression is. Admittedly, I've chosen to interpret the latter as intentional to give the player a "realistic" impression of actually struggling to survive on a completely unknown alien planet. It was still annoying to deal with. It's the abysmal story that has me not recommending this game. There's a lot of setup with absolutely no payoff. this was my first survival game that i played from start to finish. I tried terraria some time ago and was overwhelmed by its sheer size, mechanics, secrets, possibilities enemies, biomes and other stuff. This one is much simpler/ more friendly to newcomers of the genre but still interesting and challenging. I really liked setting up camp, that you have a global mission and you need to discover all those little steps towards it, how they are hidden (tho I used a guide once for one specific research, and discussions say im not alone in exactly this issue, but to be fair - usual cycle of crafting everything available and experimenting, researching what you craft and using it (if not directly mentioned not to) opens pretty much everything. Skyrim alchemy+smithing loop also kinda works here (like - you can create blacksmith tools and then create a better set of tools with basic ones, and even better with those you created previoulsy, etc). But after some time, the mechanics started to feel too shallow for the game's potential. "Research magic and discover mystical secrets" and it's actually nanomachines. Like, c'mon, would it have killed them to make the magic real in some fashion? Are fakeouts like that exciting for people? I'm not down voting it for that reason, though it for annoy me. Found the game tedious and unpleasant to look at.

This game *is* unrefined, but I find the mechanics really beautiful. It doesn't hold your hand, by which i mean you will probably waste alot of time figuring out what random item solves a specific problem, but I like how it encourages experimentation and the mcgyver feeling around it all. I haven't finished the game, I'm stuck on ritual circles lol, but it is a cool game that you should give a try!

I really like this game. It has so much potential and fun mystery to play with. Really unfortunate the game feels like at some point the effort, focus and story line breaks off, likely because the developer ran out of resources and realized what a massive undertaking making a good and robust video game is. I still recommend it as I very much like the point and click style and artwork and alien plant mystery and sourcery. Very, very cool and unique. I hope the developer pick this up again at some point. Shall we start a crowdfunding project EVERYONE?
