REVEIL

The aesthetics and atmosphere are definitely the highlights of this game. It has such a striking visual style and manages to create a genuinely unsettling atmosphere throughout. That said, the game definitely felt a little too long. I kept wondering: why do I have to do the same thing three times? Some of the puzzles also felt unnecessarily frustrating, especially when the correct code was not accepted right away. And while I liked the idea of having different endings, I did not realize there was even a choice until it was too late, by then, everything was already locked in. Still, REVEIL is a fascinating game with a wonderfully wild story, and its atmosphere alone makes it worth experiencing.

[I]Reveil[/I] is a relatively bog standard horror walking sim with light puzzles and a passing story. The most notable aspect is the circus setting, framed around a intimate family debacle for the narrative. The game begins rather grounded. You wake from bed and while atmospherically something seems as if it is mildly wrong, as you proceed not much happens. The pace is slow, deliberate, and points of interaction all make sense. After solving some puzzles in your daughter's room, part of the house suddenly falls away. Before you is a forest path, the start of which integrates with the house. This whimsical nature follows the rest of the game. But even after this fantastical event, we get back to normalcy as you eventually stumble upon the big top. The game waffles back and forth between the real and the fantastic, lending it a dreamlike, or rather nightmare-like, quality. The narrative isn't winning any awards, but it is curious enough and I appreciated the twists. The game justified its seeming faults quite well. Do you love waiting for hostile NPC's to move slowly away while you crouch walk to grab collectibles? I don't.

Absolute cinema, nice puzzles, great story it is strange by times, very lovely music made for the game, the cinematic and visuals are crazy, this game was thought about and it shows, super enjoyable game to play and was like a suspense scary level type of game id say, not the scariest but still a spooky really fun game to play. I highly recommend 10/10!!

Quick summary - Game Atmosphere 7.5 / 10 - Story 7.5 / 10 - Ending 1/10. I was hoping for something more with the ending. The atmosphere and story really pulled me in, and the ending ruined it.
