Top tier music, great combat system, amazing job system, and excellent story. Graphics are very good.

One of The Best JRPGs I've Touched. All I can say is that its basically a Champions of the Continent The mobile game made into a PC Port with much better pacing and more a feel that octopath 2 gave off. One thing i did hate is the fact unless you did all the quests up to the Finale of Master of All and Gain Ammity with most if not all traveler recruit up too that the chances of getting the materials for both the Arena and Theatre are capped at 3%, also the fact there arent any cait/octopuff boosting items besides the skill rare monsters and the very horrid balancing of the lucky coin which only gives a 5% boost to rare monster encounters made leveling very strict no way to slightly over level making the fights early one seem a bit unfair especially King Paradis/Master of all being way to hard for a early/mid game boss. though ill have to say the story, voice acting, and even the two ending from the mobile game being fully reworked was so satisfying it felt like a baby was born from COTC, OCTOPATH, and OCTOPATH II all in one to make this game. It is a simple game that I can play quickly and easily, starting where I left off. No unnecessary side quest, just level up and grind.

I've played both Octopath Traveler 1 and 2, and 0 is by far the best of the series. Octopath 1 has great combat but a forgettable story and characters, whereas 2 has a great story, combat and characters, but I wasn't able to stick with it because of the grind involved. Octopath 0 has an incredible story, so-so supporting characters and the series' excellent combat along with an addicting (albeit light) city building aspect that solves all the pacing issues in the first two games. I cannot stop playing because I need to know what happens after every chapter, and I care about all the NPCs, enemies and party members I come across. The pacing is excellent, the story is surprising and mature and the world building is the best in the series. If you've been sleeping on this game, don't. It's one of my favorite JRPGs of the past decade and the best 2D-HD game in Square's highly underrated series. The story mixes elements of the best SNES Final Fantasy games, the rings from Lord of the Rings, and antagonists that put most JRPGs to shame. Play this game and watch the time melt away.

Octopath Traveler 0 is an adaptation of the mobile game, reworked to remove gacha elements and fit as one cohesive story, taking place in the same world as the first Octopath Traveler, Orsterra. I think the game's flaws become more apparent knowing this. For example, some of the (recruitable!) characters feel irrelevant to the story, and some don't even have a proper questline other than the one where you recruit them. Additionally, I think a lot of the sidequests felt pretty weak (though all Octopath Traveler games have a chunk of those), but it becomes more apparent when the game is a 100+ hours adventure. I think trimming down parts of it would have improved the flow of the game. If you play it like a mobile game, a little bit every day, rather than long play sessions, it can be easier to manage. As for the positives, and the reason why I recommend this game, I will say that overall, I enjoyed the storytelling aspect and the life given to Orsterra a lot more compared to Octopath Traveler 1 specifically.
