despite some minor performance issues and glitches popping up, which the devs have worked hard to fix as many as possible, the gameplay itself is absolutely solid fire emblembing and I love so many of the character designs and playstyles and cool skill/weapon combos that I was struggling to include all my favorite characters in my first playthrough team, so I did a second! it's a bit of a shame how little the player character contributes to any story stuff or supports, but again there's more than enough other fun characters that it hardly matters. Also some of the voice lines are incredible. Also also there's a cute fairy which is always a huge plus!

Good: * Decent story (I'm about halfway) * Good Fire Emblem Like game * Good additions to the formula (grindstones, held items, combat arts) * Veteran is a decent difficulty level, but since I'm only doing 1 playthrough decided for normal Bad: * Some control issues: PS4 controller not working with Steam Input and wonky mouse movement on full screen * No scaleable resolution * Some crashes * Some details are hard to get good information on

When I finished Gales of Nayeli the one word that kept coming to mind was this: ambition. Gales of Nayeli is a culmination of ideas that I think impress anyone familiar with game development and understands the constraints of a premade engine like the SRPG Engine can see how much effort and ideas was strung together to create this game. So much thought put into the world, its characters, the multitude of mechanic ideas and concepts that, while they don’t quite stick the landing, create a very satisfying and meaty experience. Fire Emblem fans should be interested in this title, but I think newcomers to the genre would enjoy this game if they allow for the jank and hitching that the SRPG Engine can employ. Especially since the game lets you save each turn, it’s great! If you are unfamiliar, SRPG Engine is a toolset that lets you make games vaguely similar to the Fire Emblem titles on the SNES. It has been used by the former series lead, Shouzou Kaga, in a FE-like title he made in his free time. But, what sets Gales apart from the rest of its specific subgenre of tactical RPGs is the emotional and creative core. Gales draws on the aforementioned Nintendo series to be sure, but the…

This was much much better than I was hoping for. What sets it apart is that characters have a set of actions tied to their class that they can do on top of weapon driven actions. Like being able to Focus as amage or Vault as Keri. These can really help in specific situations. The maps have a lot of items and places to visit so far which I guess is to discourage turtling. This is a better approach than FE Engage sending waves of enemies after you that don't grant XP. I do wish there was some ability to grind levels or items though. Without grinding picking up items on stages becomes very important (to me). Also I imagine it's possible to get into a hard state with RNG growth and no way to grind (fixed growth is an option though). The story is fun and coherent and way better than Engage. The combat reminds me a little of a combination of fe8 difficultly with fe Thracia 776 qol features. Really enjoyable so far!
