I Am Future: Cozy Apocalypse Survival

Cozy crafting + survival game with a few innovations in game mechanics. Bought it pre-release and didn't regret!

As many have said; this really feels like a grind. I figured I was getting close once I reached at a particular point in the game and it threw me more of the same thing all over again. At some point I just got so bored with the game that I just gave up on it. Starts out rough with very little resources, but once you get going then having too many resources becomes a chore to organize with the very little storage space you have for them. This is far from "cozy".

If you are looking for a relaxing time in an incremental survival experience, this is a very solid option. The only con I have is when running at 4k it can be quite performance heavy

Genuinely boring and dizzy

I Am Future: Cozy Apocalypse Survival is one of those games that you wish was better than it is. The premise is a reasonable one... you wake up in a cryopod after everyone on Earth is gone, the polar caps have melted and the land is gone. The only habitable "land" is rooftops... so your survival involves growing a rooftop garden and feeding yourself. This in turn revolves around a tedious grind to collect resources and craft things. It feels like they ran out of ideas once they got the core mechanics down... so the game doesn't really go anywhere once you hit the middle, it's just grinding. Which is where we get into the problems with the game. The developers wanted to make this "cozy" (hey, Stardew Valley owes everything to coziness, because that lazy pixelcrap isn't winning any awards) but then decided having hunger as the sole survival mechanic and punishing the hell out of you for not keeping your stomach full would be wonderfully stress free. So they knifed their sole driving premise for the game immediately (note, there is an option to reduce the effects of hunger on you... but it's still crazy punitive even on the lowest difficulty setting). That's failure number #1…

I was honestly expecting a game that felt like a mobile game, but was pleasantly surprised. Very low stakes 'survival' that still has some satisfying upgrades and progression points. You can choose to turn off the whole food needs part and I don't think it'll punish you for it, but I wanted that to be part of the gameplay. Sleep is an option to get health back, but there's so many food options it doesn't feel like you'll ever need it. The only things that hurt you are worm and weed based and they're not exactly chasing you down. The story was pretty interesting, but it feels like there's a swap right at the end and the final decision of the game is incredibly disappointing. I never did understand how the lower area with the tide works. Supposedly things come in with the tide and that theoretically means free loot, but anytime I've been down there, it's always empty. Weeks pass and I still saw nothing. Doesn't seem like you can build anything down there either at least flooring wise, so those other platforms are unreachable. Overall, my expectations were on the floor and I don't regret buying the game. If they came out with another one, I'd play it, but wonder what you coul…
