Explore the vast hand-crafted open world and build Outposts to establish your presence. Claim back the land area by area. Find hidden treasures and solve puzzles long ago forgotten. Find your means of escaping the island.
The world after the end is inhabited by nasty creatures. Something vile has affected most of the wildlife and former human inhabitants of the island -- turning them into aggressive beast-like creatures. Slay them and collect their loot. Harvest their organs and provide them eternal rest. Or run away and come back when you're stronger. Fight using various melee and ranged weapons. Create traps and lure monsters in. Do whatever it takes.
You will not be fighting just to maintain the status quo. This IS NOT a game about starving. You won't be constantly looking for a tasty cockroach to fill your over-metabolic stomach while waiting for the unavoidable bliss that is death. You will never die of hunger. You will get more powerful, and unlock permanent upgrades. The world is a dangerous place, and you may take a few steps back once in a while, but eventually you will thrive.

[h1]Volume over substance. Famine without Feast.[/h1] Dysmantle is a game that I've had on my list for quite some time. As a fan of survival games, grinding games, incremental games, etc, it seemed right up my ally. But, every time it fell on sale I was busy playing something else, or had funds committed to other things. The recent summer sale was the first time that was not the case. So, I finally picked it up. And honestly? This is becoming one of the few purchases I've ever made that I regret. Dysmantle follows a simple core formula. Break things to upgrade your tools to break more things. Repeat. Do so to learn the fate of the island you're trapped on, and escape it. The problem is that the game blunders this formula early on. After your first hour or so, you're suddenly going to be locked into a famine state where you're searching for the materials that you need to get the next upgrade you need. And then, when you get that upgrade? You'll realize that you're 5 damage below the threshold that you need to cross to be able to break bigger things. Now you need another upgrade. The ultimate kick back night for an exhausted couple. Just enough difficulty to keep us entertained and strategizing, but you can also totally mentally log out and just grind. It's cozy enough for a cozy player and adventurous enough for an rpg player. It's our go-to date night game.

Can get a little grindy, but destroying everything in sight is fun and relaxing =D
