Chirax's Fortress

[H1]Charming, full of character, and a fun few hours![/h1] Adorable all the way through!! A lovely romp you can do in a session or two. Also the only game I've ever seen where you play as a hydra (explicitly, Dragon Spirit doesn't really count and getting more heads does more harm than good so it's not the best mechanic)—this must be fixed! Of course, it's not flawless, but the pros outweigh the cons. Pros: + Cute cute cuuuute visuals, including a main character that evokes Rayman and Plok. Her heads even operate a bit separately—look up or down, and there's a slight delay before the other heads follow suit. Fairly varied worlds and enemies with personality! Of note, many characters are armless; this is done for clarity. But it fits the Raymanesque style well! Plus, who can say no to a boss with (ON TIME!!) backup dancers? + Pretty darn decent music! I can see why the OST is separate. + Each level is fun and has its own identity, and while many are pretty easy (the last world's levels have a notable difficulty spike, but it's the final world, so that's okay), it's still satisfying to finish them. + The gameplay itself is done well. +Really understands the assignment with making a game inspired by the 90's! The color palette, sprite design and ost replicate the feel of my childhood while also becoming something new! To be less vague: it has the level design and aesthetics of yoshi, the sfx style of Mario World mixed in with the gameplay hook of Dynamite Headdy! +Amazing level design. The idea of having multiple heads is fully realized and no single idea outstays its welcome (SPOILER: you even become a boat!) +Love the seamless blend of 2-D and 3-D! +Great replayability! -slippery controls can be unruly in tighter platforming sections Conclusion: The hot milf dragon gave me "head" would recommend 11/10

Loved playing through this game, not too difficult and not too hard to find gems. I felt levels with more prevalent instakills were quite annoying, but those levels were very rare. Awesome game !

Cute and short little game and you play as a creature. Also the music is a bop sometimes seriously

i can't believe i forgot to review this game! it was a great time and oozes charm, i look back on my playthrough very fondly. hopefully i get time to play through it again someday

Game so good, you'll get not one, not two, but three heads total! Hydra heads, your health meter and means of attacking, of course. Jokes aside, it's a very charming SNES-era styled romp, reminiscent of Yoshi's island, full of very neat SuperFX-like 3D effects. If you need your 16-bit platformer fix, definitely consider giving Chirax's Fortress a go!
