Beyond Sunset

I wanted a cyber punk boomer shooter and I got an arena shooter in boomer shooter clothing. I don't like arena shooters. Its boring to kill horde after horde of the same few bad guys that teleport in to wait till the door opens to the next room. that happens a lot. people complain about it trying to be a little deus ex and the maps but i liked those. I didn't like the cyber areas where you hack into computers, it just wasnt fun after a few. It cites duke nukem and other old school shooters as influence but it really doesn't play like it. if you like new doom style stuff with the arena fights you might like this but im old school doom guy.

This game has a really nice old school vibe that I like.

Fun game, lots of places to explore in some of the biggest levels I have ever seen in my life. This is a Gzdoom engine game but feels different, likely from the newer abilities that the engine allows you to have, like side dashing, jumping, aiming, and a sword that deflects bullets. Actually, it ran perfectly well except for one time only, it crashed in the final battle against a horde of bad guys, so many bullets in the air. Like there was so many it looked like a bullet hell game. Your sword is great at deflecting though, so it doesn't matter how many come at you, you just hold down the other button and it deflects. As for swording the sword, it's a great weapon too. It's better than the knife basic weapon in all other games for the most part. At the moment I write those lines, the game is unplayable on my machine beyond the tutorial despite trying Vulkan and GL ES as well as tuning GZDoom's settings to the lowest possible requirements. No community posts or dev posts mention specific settings tuning to improve performances. This game seems promising but requires optimiation even if I concede my specs are not the best. Many players mention that the lag issues come from the GZDoom engine rather than their machine (obviously more recent than mine) performances. I will still try to run it on my newer laptop someday. Will update this review accordingly.

This ♥♥♥♥ kicks ass, dude. Loved it

Gave it a fair shot and I loved the aesthetics and music, but honestly I wasn't too into the gameplay or design of it overall. Lots of tedious walking around and one note enemies, and it becomes pretty repetitive after you understand all your tools. Still worth a shot if you like how it looks.
