Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my VR mod gameplay & commentary here: https://youtu.be/XvyB_uzTO7E Yes, you can play Better than Dead in VR using the UEVR mod by Praydog (nightly version with Joey Hodge's fork UEVRbackend.dll). I also used Keyser Sose's community profile from the Flat2VR community discord. You do need a beefy rig though. However, if you can, you will experience this game in the best way possible. This game is brilliant in VR. Body cam / fish bowl look? Gone in VR. Wobbly aim? Gone in VR. You're aiming with your motion controllers in full 6DOF. You're aiming just like you would in real life. Get a gun stock and it'll feel like the real thing. You will be Keanu Reeves in John Wick, in fact, you'll be better. You'll be Denzel Washington in Equalizer. If you want that true power / revenge fantasy, that's only possible in VR. You will have 100% true immersion with these ultra-realistic visuals in VR. This is the future of gaming now. Thanks to the VR modders for making this possible. I just wish developers had the same cojones. [b]VR Rating 8/10. Performance and some visual glitches keep this from being perfect in VR, but it is made for VR. …5 found this helpful
this game is actually fun, unlike most games
Honestly the game plays really really well and it looks great. I will be coming back to this for a while, it's hard to find a game like that I think the enemies could be a little more accurate, sometimes it felt a bit silly that they were missing me - the npcs also feel a little flat when reacting to the player. Might not be far in enough but an automatic gun would feel great here
good game :)
Better Than Dead is a potentially fantastic game that just needs more work and time. There seems a be a huge misunderstanding in the reviews that keeps cropping up over and over again - the aiming and controls are abysmal and people cannot line up shots. That is not what this game is. This is a run and gun and slide simulator. I think perhaps the bodycam aesthetic and the way the character can arc their gun while moving around make this game seem like it should be played differently. Provided you are constantly sliding, triggering slomo, and just making sure you're clicking in the correct direction, gunplay is buttery smooth. I should note, I did drop the mouse sensitivity down to .3, which I found made everything really click for me. Although, I am saying this as someone that has played a whole lotta CS2 and is used to low-sens aiming. But my point is that you should be playing like what you see in the gameplay trailer footage and gifs for the game. The atmosphere and tone are on point. I love the environmental story-telling filling in for the lack of an overt narrative. If I had two major critiques, one would be the overall jank - Animations are only half done for civilians. …
its getting negative reviews from people who expect a very different game. this is an awesome concept. i've always thought about a game that makes brief gun fights REALLY intense and difficult, instead of prolonged fire fights with simple cover mechanics etc. this game does that really well. if you buy it expecting ready or not or bodycam then you might be disappointed, but if you want a game that imitates what YOU'D probably be like with a pistol in a night club, instead of some commando, then this is the game for you. the downside is that as of right now, the game is basically just that: a concept. It took me less than two hours to beat it and it gets kind of repetitive. it'd be cool to face varied enemies that both look different and have different weapons. i like that there isn't a ton of armor, i think "tank" bosses would go against the realism vibe, but still some variation i think is necessary. im half into the idea that your character only has a pistol, but the destructible environment did make me want to use a submachine gun or a shotgun lol. also, the story is simple but effective. no need to add characters or dialogue. i like how the levels themselves narrate the game…
