Atomic Wilds

This is a pretty neat mashup of an old-school top down Zelda experience and a twin-stick shooter. Gameplay with a controller is pretty responsive and feels fair. I can't speak to the k/m experience. All in all it feels good for a retro game at this price point. Give it a try and support indie devs!

It's such a joy whenever I find a game like this. Atomic Wilds encapsulates exactly what I love about indie games and reminds me that scouring through pages of undiscovered Steam games proves to be worth the effort every so often. This game plays similarly to the original Legend of Zelda (in the same vein as Shotgun Legend), but was overall a more enjoyable experience for me. You're able to upgrade your character's attack, range, and speed by collecting chips occasionally dropped by your enemies, and the 6 dungeons contain weapon upgrades that act similarly to the items in a Zelda game. The controls can take some getting used to and may require some reconfiguration, but once you get rolling, there's an exciting world to explore here. I was able to fully upgrade my character, find all of the heart containers / information logs / chip caches, and finish the final (lonnng) dungeon in about 7 hours of playtime. For anyone picking this up, know that: - Getting killed doesn't penalize you, but there's currently a bug that causes your game to crash if you get killed by some specific enemies.
