Stories from the Outbreak

I've been playing since early access and I fell in love with this latvian zombie turn-based rougelike rpg from the first demo I played <3 I'm a bit of an addict, but I believe the game's rougelike loops are what keep me coming back, because the different synergies between characters make each run feel very distinct One thing that i don't particularly like is the asking price, which makes me not recommend as often as I do, however definitely get it on sale! Gud game

TLDR: Overpriced for what it is, but a decent little game worth 5quid and good for an evening or two. [b][u]General Thoughts/Overview:[/u][/b] I’m damn near certain I played Stories from the Outbreak (SftO) to death on New Grounds some 25 years ago… but I can’t find any information about it from back then, and the name was different. It’s driving me mental. But exactly how many zombie games have you exploring PoI’s across Riga, and escaping by ferry to Iceland? Even the final boss is the same. Am I crazy? Anyway, SftO is a party building game where your characters have different skills themes around broad classes, which they can synergise throughout the turn based combat who’s main feature is that the skills have a ‘delay’ which makes the turns dynamic based on the skills you used. It’s much more coherent and intuitive to play than it sounds on paper. Throughout our adventure we explore the PoI’s (some we know what we get, others are ‘?’, level up, manage health and power up curio token things, gain fragments for the various stories, and gather fuel which we use as currency for our escape. What an amazing hidden gem of a game! Nice pixel art, nice atmosphere, nice mechanics. Straight forward on the surface but with a lot of synergies that can absolutely break the game but you really feel clever when you pull it off. The best thing about this is how well designed are these synergies between the characters. But it has some good writing as well, surprisingly for the genre and the scope of the game which is not very big. I have beaten this three times before losing, but I overthink every turn. I think bad reviews about difficulty are just skill issue players that do not read. If you are doubting just get it, good times.

game is a lot of fun its actually criminal how few people have played it. i rate it quite highly. its not as rougelite as youd expect more of randomised series of set events and locations in a semi random order. wish the leveling up was a little easier. never in any games have i ever gotten 4 inspiration points.
