absolute piece of ♥♥♥♥, instant death and permanent debilitation everywhere that persist through resurrection like permanent max hp reduction - unavoidable so your stats, gear and combat skill often don't matter and you either reload so it feels like nothing matters as there is no danger with just reloading to avoid or until you roll well, or you take it in the chin enough times until you end up with 1 max hp or several other stats reduced instant death without being allowed to fight is at least mitigated to an extent by resurrection deals, but if on champion difficulty you're going to be grinding gold to get your stuff back constantly which is easy but boring asf - and good luck finding rank ups to increase that max hp when you go down a road and take 1 dmg if you don't want to play guideless like most games and not reload after anything bad happens ur gonna have to make a guide for urself and write everything down that ♥♥♥♥♥ you over, you'll have a full book when you're done

Not developed enough. Too many repeating scenes and screens. UI and gameplay feel clunky. I wanted to like this but options are limited, repeat of beaten combat scenarios. Just needs more.

Pretty fun game. Great for nostalgia if you played the books in the 90s! Thank you for bringing Fabled Lands back to life.

A spectacular game, deftly updating the wide open world of adventure from Morris and Thomson's 1990s gamebooks. The original Fabled Lands books were something like an open world role-playing game on paper, packed with fantastical locales that might change to a fair extent as the hero completed world changing quests - if they managed to trace subtle clues across the world and back, while avoiding quite a lot of sudden death, bankruptcy and crippling injury. This is a tricky game, as they were such tricky gamebooks, that the irresistibility of looking ahead in the book and cheating was their fatal flaw - which the game of course completely solves, though there are still achievement guides if you get stuck. The game also takes the opportunity to upgrade and expand the combat system from the books, and even more importantly update the system for gaining skill points, another weakness of the books, to be much more predictable. If you've never read the Fabled Lands books but enjoy challenging text-based fantasy RPGs, through original and often brilliantly described fantasy kingdoms teeming with intricate quests, supported by very decent graphics and excellent mechanics, this is game yo…

Well...this game is something quite different from what you might expect if you only look at screenshots. But it's well described on store page and there's also a demo, so you don't need to go in blind. What I mean by it being different is that it really feels like your own big adventure. You don't know what will happen when you just travel between two neighbouring cities. You may simply walk on the road and two dice rolls later you are on top of a mountain, fighting the storm demon. Or you run into some vagrant who shares with you a random fantasy tale, that doesn't help you right away, but that knowledge will be useful in some later quest you don't even have yet. Sure, some events will repeat themselves and you can (and probably will) save-scum if you want and that will take some of that magic away. But that joy of discovering new places, new quests and new stories throughout the game is really something special. You roll the dice and what appears to be bad luck turns out being interesting quest with great reward. Or... the exact opposite happens. I recommend trying NOT to save-scum as there can be interesting outcomes even after bad rolls, sometimes maybe even better than imm…
