[b] It genuinely reminded me of being a kid alone at home in the dark, imagining things in the silence. Very few horror games manage to bring back that specific kind of fear. After a virus starts driving people mentally ill, you explore the disturbed mind of one of its victims... The style is incredibly unique. A found-footage aesthetic mixed with that raw early-2000s feeling makes everything feel strangely real and unsettling. The atmosphere is dreadful from beginning to end. Not because the game relies on cheap jumpscares, but because it constantly builds discomfort and fear of the unknown. The backstory is also surprisingly strong, adding weight to the experience instead of feeling like an excuse for the horror. Gameplay is essentially a realistic walking simulator, but it works perfectly here because immersion and psychological tension are the real focus. Lappelduvide is a very different take on horror. A hidden gem. Surely not for everyone, but a game with a lot of charisma that fully delivers on its premise. Even though the game costs only 1 dollar, I still wouldn't recommend it. It's really short and rather uneventful with a cheap jumpscare thrown in. You're a guy who is slowly succumbing to a mind-controlling virus, a bit like the Tuurngait virus from Penumbra: Black Plague. It displays a found footage VHS style aesthetic and you're walking around interacting with objects and getting some texts in-between. It's not terrible but it feels more like a tech demo. The worst part is that the game is rather barebones and buggy and I was forced to close it after trying to get the resolution right, locking me out of seeing and interacting with the settings menu. I just watched a gameplay video instead of restarting and trust me, it's not too exciting. Buy a coke instead.

I originally saw a photoset preview of this on tiktok and was so happy to finally play the game once released. Analogue horror is a great genre, and having it take place in the Philippines unlocks new environmental storytelling potential. Lappelduvide takes us into an isolating and terrifying mystery involving a virus, or another entity that overtakes the player. Though I had some trouble progressing, once I figured it out I enjoyed the overall experience and will be replaying to appreciate the finer details even more. I hope to see more from this developer!

VERY GUD VERY NICE!

A weird game and a rare Filipino horror game in general. You're some guy who's mother has died and you live in some tattered house in the middle of nowhere and have to look around your property to trigger events. The graphics are strange, but I kinda like them. The sound is almost non-existent and the head bobbing is very annoying. There are some cheap jump scares and a few interesting moments that don't really make a lot of sense. The best part for me was the weird-ass intro. Wtf was that?
