✦ AI summary

ZonZon is a horror exploration game set in an abandoned warehouse where players must survive encounters with mutated workers and uncover the mystery of what happened. However, players report significant issues including heavy-handed asset flipping accusations with uncredited marketplace assets, uncomfortable camera mechanics with excessive head bob and motion blur, and audio problems with overlapping dialogue that creates a confusing sound mix. While some appreciate the horror atmosphere and backrooms-style exploration concept, the technical execution and ethical concerns substantially detract

Developed by Paphnutius and published by WINTERMUTE, ZonZon is an indie psychological horror game that transforms an everyday industrial warehouse into the setting for an unnerving and often unpredictable survival experience. The story begins with a journalist entering the massive facility to record what appears to be a routine documentary, only to discover that something is terribly wrong inside its endless corridors. What should have been a simple investigation quickly becomes a desperate fight to escape as violent security guards and unstable warehouse workers begin hunting anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path. The game's premise immediately establishes an unsettling mood while introducing an offbeat sense of humor that gives the narrative its own distinctive identity. Rather than relying on nonstop action, ZonZon builds tension through exploration and uncertainty. The warehouse serves as a sprawling labyrinth filled with storage rooms, machinery, dark hallways, and hidden areas that encourage players to carefully examine their surroundings. Progress depends on solving environmental puzzles, locating useful clues, and finding safe routes through increasingly dangerous …
Warning: Asset Flip! ZonZon is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unreal Marketplace assets, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper took a bunch of generic, low quality Unreal assets, arranged them (badly) into a basic "warehouse" themed first person jumpscare crapfest, and rushed it onto Steam Direct with a bunch of fake, paid Russian reviews. What's notable about this is the developer would then copy + paste the exact same asset flip as "Escape from Warehouse"... why run one asset flip scam…

2/10 I was unable to adjust the settings enough to play, the motion blur can be removed; however the strong head bob made it a little nauseating to play. The moment you walk in you are greeting with a warehouse that contains a group of workers who talk loudly and over each other. I wish I could have played it longer, as I do love backrooms games.
