Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

They nerfed flying to just gliding for some reason. Rudy is all-time most insufferable rat in the whole game. A pathetic excuse of a replacement to the GOATvirou... they even lobbed the Navirou cameo into a nothing burger paid dlc. Tho I will admit controls are more streamlined and swapping between monsties is very smooth. Just why the hell can't we fly and instead have to make do with air vents? You telling me a RATHALOS king of the skies- flies the moment it's born needs a damn updraft to fly? Ridiculous, especially since Stories 1 and 2 you can fly just fine. Even with all the new movement options and mechanics, exploration feels worse than Stories 2.

Good writing, a solid experience, and charming creatures that you hatch, and raise to become companions to help protect nature...as well as help restore wildlife habitats by releasing extra creatures back into the wild, too...which is ideal for making various creatures easier to find and obtain! And even brings in variants of certain animal breeds and species, too! You know what? Among the "Monster Hunter Stories" games, this is the best one, so far! The problem? It crashes too much on my powerful gaming PC, so, until further notice, DO NOT get it on Steam; get it on CONSOLE, instead! (Nintendo Switch 2, Sony PlayStation 5, etc.)

tl;dr: 9/10 I've never played the Stories series myself but I had watched a friend play them. I had to play it myself after seeing just how much better it was than the prior entries. Fully voice acted main character, Palico that is actually not the most annoying thing on the planet, new mechanics that are actually pretty cool, a believable story (given the world), and holy moly the animations are somethin else! There's a few things about the game that were a bit unclear but for the most part you can figure them out. You can also run any kind of set of monsties you want and there's plenty of cool ones or mutations to discover! I had a really hard time putting the game down whenever I started playing haha. Genuinely a fun experience! 55 hours and I didnt full clear the game but did a decent amount of the side content and egg farming so a fairly lengthy game which was nice. The story didnt feel like it dragged and the character sub stories were a riot!!

After putting 66h (8h on free trial) I didn't expect to love this game as much as I did. The habitat restoration is addictive, and the fighting mechanics are really engaging. I hit walls with how hard the game can be sometimes, but nothing that a bit of grinding and learning the fight didn't solve. My biggest negative about this game, like many people, is that this game would really benefit from endgame content. The story can be lengthy, but I want an excuse to keep playing after the credits. Most of the harder "endgame" monsters are is just the same monsters with a lot more health and do more damage, so it can get repetitive fast. I still recommend it for how much fun that the main game is alone. Lastly, the game on my PC it runs flawlessly on high settings. I put some hours on my Steam Deck as well, and there, although there's some noticeable fps spikes on higher refresh rates, it never run bellow 30fps on native resolution at low settings, so you can go from beginning to end on the Deck easy

The core of the game is very fun and addictive, from playing the beginning (or the demo) you instantly feel "this is a good game", but I think capcom made a good game accidentally here, seeing how flat it falls and how many bad decisions there are too. Overall, MH Stories 2 is a much better game. Even so, for just the main game, a little side content, and to just finish it once, this game is fine, and I would recommend it. But only barely for full price - wait for a sale is better. The gameplay in the beginning feels really good and fights seem difficult too. The story also starts strong with a proper conflict and many mysteries. We also have an interesting cast of characters. But after 1/4 of the story and when the game opens up, it all falls rather flat. The story doesn't really go anywhere and any of the answers to the mysteries we get make not much sense or are just the most boring they could be. The conflict and war don't really go anywhere apart from in cutscenes. The characters also never evolve any more than the stereotypes they appear to be in the beginning. The game in enjoyable and the art is beautiful. I love the graphics and gameplay.
