About People of Note

✦ AI summary

People of Note is a turn-based RPG where pop singer Cadence recruits band members across a music-filled world while battling dark forces threatening Note's musical harmony, all through interactive combat synchronized to dynamic, genre-shifting soundtracks. Each battle plays out as a rhythm-based musical performance where you time attacks to the beat, combine band members' musical styles for powerful mashup moves, and adapt your strategy as the genre changes in real-time.

In this bold turn-based RPG, where musical numbers meet thrilling combat, join pop singer Cadence on her quest for stardom.

After being shut out of the Noteworthy Song Contest, Cadence realizes that her solo act might not be enough for the judges. As she travels across Note to the Rock City of Durandis, the EDM City of Lumina, and more, Cadence fills out her band with eclectic and powerful musicians from lands afar. But something's brewing in the distance...the Harmonic Convergence is playing havoc with the world's musical energies, and dark forces are working behind the scenes to disrupt Note's natural harmonies. It wasn't in the set list, but Cadence and the others need to step up and make sure music itself still has a future on stage.

In People of Note, experience turn-based combat like never before: each battle is an interactive musical performance with evolving combat conditions, real-time rhythm-based attacks, and genre-bending mashup attacks!

 • Enjoy full-length cinematic musical sequences spanning a wide variety of musical genres, performed by our main cast of characters.
 • Experience turn-based action combat as a dynamic, interactive musical performance.
 • Tempo-Based Rhythm Combat: Time your attacks to the beat of the music for amplified damage against opponents.
 • Dynamic Combat Conditions: As the music in battle changes in real-time, strategize your attacks to synchronize with the current genre.
 • Musical Mashups: Combine the unique musical genres of your team members to unleash electrifying musical mashup attacks.
 • Explore Note, a massive world where each genre of music is represented by a completely unique environment and culture.
 • Dive into vibrant dungeons full of offbeat enemies and clever environmental puzzles.
 • Play it your way: Don’t like environmental puzzles? Turn ‘em off. Not into turn-based combat? Don’t worry, we got you. The entire experience of People of Note is completely customizable.

The day after I beat this game, my brain refused to focus on work in favor of planning out fanfiction.

Buy this if you are really into Disney-esque songs, OR, have a deep appreciation for voice acting. Go for it if you really love Disney songs, or love to see your favorite voice actors singing. Voice acting is really great, the character design is nice: everyone feel unique and bring something to the music world. The worst part of this game is, sadly, the narrative. To sum up, everything happened because the story wanted it to happen. Cadance was, well..., one of the protagonist, you'd have a hard time trying to sympathize with her. Her entire character just screamed "Entitlement," with nothing other than "PLEASE, I'M A STAR," though the change of heart did happen, it's a mid/late part into the story. Speaking of late, though the soundtrack is great, some of mash-ups appeared at the very late part of the game, I would've enjoyed this game more if the mash-ups had unlocked sooner. The puzzle is okay, not too difficult, I was just annoyed at the fact that I had to run left to right, left to right, again and again, and the fact that I had to keep pressing TAB to get the whole view of puzzle. Also, it's really weird that, despite it being a QTE music game, there was no rhythm, or …

It took me a while to get into People of Note, and I almost gave up on it. At the beginning of the game -- when you have only one character and a few abilities -- combat feels very slow and repetitive. This improves with every new band member and ability you unlock, and by the end of the game you actually have to put some thought into your setup. The same is true of the environmental puzzles, which start out too easy but ramp up significantly towards the end. If you can get through the first few hours there's a lot to like. Especially if you're a fan of RPGs, musicals, and puns.

I think this is my first time writing a review on Steam and wow! Just finished the game and what a treat! Sure, it wasn't perfect, but this was definitely a passion project from the dev team as I could feel how much love and work they put into this. As a RPG fan and a huge fan of musicals, it's like this game was made for me! It might lack polishing, and a few QoL improvements could be added there, but if you're a fan of music, I highly recommend this game! The songs during the cinematics, as well as the rest of the music, are absolutely incredible (I hope we get a release of all the battle OST one day)! Often I'd stop in the middle of combat just to appreciate how the different styles of music blended together, it was so enjoyable. The turn-by-turn RPG combat style isn't anything new but with the music twist it was really delightful and not repetitive imo. Plot was arguably predictable but honestly still so much fun to follow, I was looking forward to every new song as I made progress! And personally I found all the characters very loveable. I hope so so so much to see a sequel to this game, I can definitely see the potential threads left here and there that we could pick up? And…

I absolutely love this game! The world feels alive and lived in with rich lore, beautiful environments, and creative wildlife. The characters all feel like genuine people and I got so attached to the main crew that I was actually disappointed when I reached the end of the game. I wanted more time with them! And the music! Each of the main genres is given so much love and spotlight, and on top of that every battle track has alternate remix versions that can play to buff specific band members. There's even fully animated music videos for some of the songs! Everything in Note ties back to music somehow! The combat is incredibly fun as well. You can decide turn order for your party and have any of them do whatever in any of your available spots, and that combined with being able to customize your party's abilities and being able to see what your enemies are going to do leads to some very unique battles and strategizing. I did encounter a few bugs here and there (mostly environmental pieces trapping me, odd interactions when several events happen at once in rare circumstances, stuff like that) but nothing major and nothing that impacted my enjoyment of the game at all. I cannot reco…

Such a fantastic game. It is so sad how underrated it is. I fell in love with the characters, the world and of course the music! Sure some of the songs are a little cheesey but its sweet. The combat is great turn-based action and the puzzles were legit very good! Give it a shot ya'll.
