Short and easy but sweet platformer for just couple of euros? Sign me up! I played through the main game in couple of hours. This one has fun combat, simple bosses and somewhat weird feeling platforming (I'll talk about this later). Eight short(ish) stages and upgrades to collect. Every upgrade felt meaningful apart from the "double damage sword" that didn't really do anything to help you. Tons of subweapons during the levels to abuse. You could just toss em across the screen to clear most of the enemies. There is still the second character to play which I just tried for one stage, so a bit of replayability. About the platforming.. it felt really nice 80% of the time, except when you needed to hang from fences with double jumping. Sometimes the double jump worked, sometimes it didn't. Also grabbing the fences was always a toss of a coin if you grabbed it or not. So few places in the game felt a bit annoying to go through and died a lot because the double jump not working or just fall to my doom because not grabbing a fence. Otherwise the game was solid! Edit: OH AND THE MUSIC ROCKS Highly recommended on sale!

It is a very paint by the numbers action platformer game. It is clearly influenced by Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden but does not understand what makes those games tick. It contains loads of different mechanics and abilities just jumbled together without any sense of coherency. The game is easy and lacks a sense of meaning and challenge. There are barely any stakes: you can mostly just spam through most of the game without thinking much. The best part of the game is the music. The pixel art is also well done. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game EXCEPT if you are looking for an action platformer game with nice music and pixel art to burn through in a couple of hours. -- Once you finish the game you unlock a second character that is like the old school Shinobi character with a ranged attack and fast movement speed. It is a shame that the enemies do not really know how to react to this character and it seems you can just run past most of them. If you're looking for another Curse of the Moon. This is it not! The movement is extremely slow, even for this type of game. Yes, there is a way faster second character, after beating the game, I know... There is air control, but there is also knock back (of course there is). However the worse part is: you cannot re-grab the walls you can climb on, no matter how long you fall. This results in some very cheep deaths against the third boss. Also spikes on the ground kill you in one hit (another of course) and spikes on the ceiling as well, whose hitbox is way larger than you think. There are no breakable walls or hidden secrets. The only "hidden" thing are gambling slot machines, were you can spend your money. They don't really fit the setting and feel like an afterthought. You can win only ordinary items that are not worth the price, if you're able to win in the first place. The campfire, that is near by most of the time, offers a better deal. Another afterthought or not thought through idea are your shadow companion. I think there was a third one planed, as your inventory has room for another one. You switch between them with LB & RB, which makes no real sense if there are only two…

Simple, straight forward action platforming in the style of 8-bit castlevania. It's a solid game with moderate difficulty. Much more accessible than actual retro games. You get infinite lives and very frequent checkpoints. The graphics and music are great. But the gameplay is a little undercooked here. It's not bad but it could have used some unique mechanics that set it apart from other retro-style platformers. This is basically just Castlevania with a little bit of Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden DNA in there. The game is very short, can be beaten in under 2 hours. And like I said, it's moderate difficulty at best. Many of the bosses are pretty easy as I defeated them on my first try. A few deal massive damage so they will kill you a few times before you learn the patterns, which are pretty simple. It's not a baby game though, it really is about mid-level difficulty. So it's in an awkward place between being totally modern difficulty and hardcore difficulty. Personally I enjoy a little bit more challenge then this but at least the game challenged me enough to not put me to sleep. It was fairly fun overall.
