Knights of the Road

💰 THIS is what you call a game properly inspired by NES titles. Fun, inventive, not too hard or easy, an exciting adventure. Original mechanics and secrets, partially inspired by «Duck Tales». The controls require a little getting used to, but it's quite comfortable. The levels are colorful, large and interesting to explore. The checkpoint placement is very convenient. Funny references, good bosses and useful skills. There is an element of tricky puzzles, and with the exception of a couple of overly complicated platforming moments before the finale, they aren't stressful. A nice game, from which some similar indie projects should learn game design and the right balance of difficulty.

If you're a fan of the late 8-bit era of consoles, this is a platformer for you. It has that pixel art and chiptune charm that reminds me of simpler times. The level design and platforming is mostly a good time, though I certainly had a handful of absolute frustrating moments. But hey, I suck at games. So it's cool.

Game is pretty kewl with good variety. this is a cult classic in the making

Knights of the Road is a pretty solid puzzle platformer, but it has some quirks. The initial gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Shovel Knight but it certainly has an identity of its own. Really smooth gameplay, good music, great 8 bit graphics, and mostly solid level design and fun bosses. This game does have a somewhat interesting design quirk with how gold is used. You pay a small amount of gold to activate the various checkpoints in the game. However, you also need gold to have access to most of the alternate abilities in the game as well as the various health upgrades. In my time playing, I paid for every checkpoint and only had enough for the 2 alt abilities you have to pay for plus 1 of the 3 health upgrades. In theory, you can sacrifice some checkpoints in order to save yourself up more money to get the various upgrades throughout the game. There's a certain risk/reward system there that I can appreciate. However, maybe it's just me personally, but I would've just preferred to have normal checkpoints and pay for the upgrades as I go through the game. You still have to get a ton of treasure chests to reasonably pay for the upgrades anyways, so it's not like you would be gett…

Decent platformer. Not as difficult as Shovel Knight, but not as long as The Messenger. Fits the bill nicely.
