Information / Review English
Pocket Spouse falls into the 2D action RPG genre developed by Seth Fasnacht.
Gameplay / Story
In this adventure, we explore various bays/beaches, forests, and become the owner of a large castle, which also features a marketplace in the center where trade takes place. As the lord of the castle, we must trade in our daily lives to fill our purses. We also cook, craft various items, and host our guests with many delicious dishes and drinks. However, there are others out there who want to get their hands on us and seize our possessions. We equip our heroes with equipment and thus fight our enemies, whether animal or human. Talk to the locals, visit the shops and guilds, seek a royal audience, and explore the deep forests and sunny beaches.
Pros
+ Long-term motivation + Dark story and setting + Various guilds + Hunting, building, cooking, fishing + Good menu navigation and controls + Good value for money
Cons
- Music gets annoying at some point - English language only
Conclusion
Pocket Spouse offers you a solid tactical strategy role-playing game that ensures long-term motivation. After picking your character from a premade selection of four guys and four girls, you end up inside your bedroom. There’s not much of an introduction to the game’s world or what exactly you’re supposed to be doing, but if you’re interested in some of the lore, you can read a few books on various topics by interacting with bookshelves. As for everything else, you’ll need to figure out how things work on your own. First of all, objects you can interact with are not marked in any way. This leads to a lot of walking around and pressing the interaction button in front of everything just in case it has something interesting. Most interactions simply give you a comment, but some reveal more and let you pick up an item here and there. However, while your home offers plenty of these interactions, the rest of the game isn’t nearly as generous, and it’s best not to waste time with them unless something really stands out or looks important, such as notes or unique items. This doesn’t apply to the various characters populating the world, who you’ll naturally want to talk to. However, unless they own a business, they don’t have anything interesting to say and simply repeat the same dialogue. …
