I am a big fangirl of Ryukishi despite all of his imperfections, so take this review with a grain of salt as it is inevitably going to be extremely biased. That being said, R.G.D. is the only significant Sound Novel of his I have put back reading for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. In result, I'm coming into it with a significant pause after some of Ryukishi's best works. I will try to avoid spoilers here, but will touch on themes and my issues with the writing (although avoiding specific examples) ================= STORY ================= To list the formalities, the prose of R.G.D. is clean and adequately eloquent, with healthy and energetic pacing - there aren't any questionable translations, and it is pleasant to read. It is best to treat the novel as a pleasant glamurous criminal thriller that has things to say; I wouldn't recommend expecting this to be another Umineko or Ciconia with their philosophical and sophisticated merits. As you have probably (100% guaranteed I don't even know why I'm writing this section) read, the game presents a story about survival in unstable (and overtly criminal) Stone Jun…

Rose Guns Days is an excellent visual novel game. It has a unique setting and extremely memorable characters. The drama is excellently crafted, and the themes the game tackles are handled with a lot of care and thought put into them. This game is a cult classic- If you look at the other reviews you'll mostly see in-jokes and references and that kind of thing. This is the first time the game has been officially available in English, and it's a really nice remaster. The character art looks gorgeous in HD.

A much faster start than the rest of ryukishi's other works. Much different than his other works as well, but still really good, though it does lack the intrigue that his other works set up early on. Soundtrack is solid but much less variety than in wtc. Looking forward to s2 release in a few weeks and hopefully the following seasons also come out with a good schedule. Release the Kurashiki files.

Rose Guns Days season 1 is an interesting setup to one of Ryukishi 07s less popular series. So far it does not reach the heights or depth of higurashi or umineko, but I think the world and its factions are quite intriguing and a joy to follow. Looking forward to how the story progresses moving forward and how much deeper the rabbit hole will go. I think the storytelling is pretty sporadic and a bit surface level at times but it has an undeniable charm and the world building is excellent. Definitely recommend for fans of Ryukishi07ths other works.
