About Tachyon Project

✦ AI summary

Tachyon Project is a dual stick shooter where you control Ada, a sentient program uncovering the mystery of her creation while battling through progressively challenging levels filled with unique enemies and diverse weapons. The game stands out with innovative stealth mechanics, a compelling story campaign with unlockable upgrades, endless challenge modes with leaderboards, and up to 4-player local co-op gameplay.

Tachyon Project is a dual stick shooter heavily inspired by classic shoot'em ups. We’ve combined many unique enemy types, a large variety of weapons and power-ups with innovative gameplay to ensure a long lasting challenge and discovery at every new level.

In Tachyon Project you take control of Ada, a software program that has taken conscience and that was designed to hack into the most secure servers on Earth. After some rather mysterious events, Ada is thrown out of the test server where it was living and out into the Internet, but when she tries to go back there she finds she's unable to. She'll then start a journey to uncover the truth behind what happened to her creators, which she considers her parents. In the process she'll find out that things were a bit more complex than she initially thought.

The game provides an interesting story mode where you go unlocking new weapons, secondary weapons and perks as you progress and uncover the story behind Ada's creation. But you can also play on challenges that present you with unending hordes of enemies to try for the best score and compete in leaderboards. You can play these challenges either alone or with friends in up to 4 player local multiplayer co-operative games.

Tachyon Project also brings new ideas to the table, presenting a new stealth mode in some levels where you have to pick carefully when to shoot to avoid being discovered too early and keep yourself disguised.

✦ AI summary

Players praise Tachyon Project for its tight, responsive controls, excellent enemy variety, great soundtrack, and satisfying arcade-style difficulty curve that rewards skill and tactical thinking. Common complaints center on the game's steep difficulty spike around level 4 that some find frustrating rather than engaging, unbalanced upgrade systems, and inconsistent music transitions that could better align with gameplay events rather than occurring randomly.

EDIT: Could not beat level 7, wave 1. On PS4 the wave had mines, which would help extend the timer, but not on PC apparently. Good music, but spends too much time playing mellow music and changes tracks at random intervals. Would be better to change tracks with spawns or even just when a new wave starts. Starts off easy, but from level 4 some game sense is needed. Enemy placement seems deliberate and encourages tactics to get rid of them efficiently. Enemy variety is excellent and they appear distinct so you can know which enemy type it is at a glance. The yellow and orange small fry blurs together in a pinch though. I found upgrades to be unbalanced but at least many are cool to try. The extra time/health upgrades seems mandatory sometimes, so I just left them on. And upgrading shooting seems cool at first, but you often get surrounded, so I felt like I needed AoE - when I have AoE, shooting seems secondary and a waste of upgrades. You get a secondary weapon which buffs shooting a lot, so maybe with that one, or if you got bullet hell skills, you may have more build variety. Some times I could not fire special weapons (explosions, mines). Never found out why. Seems like they …

Tachyon Project, developed and published by Eclipse Games, is a fast-paced twin-stick shooter that blends classic arcade intensity with modern progression systems and a light narrative framework. At first glance, it presents itself as a familiar top-down arena shooter, but as the experience unfolds, it becomes clear that the game aims to offer more than pure reflex-driven action. It places the player in control of Ada, a sentient artificial intelligence navigating hostile digital spaces in search of answers about her origins, using this premise to give context and cohesion to what might otherwise be a purely abstract sequence of battles. The core gameplay is built around tight, responsive controls that are essential for survival in the game’s increasingly chaotic arenas. Movement and shooting are handled independently, allowing players to weave through dense enemy fire while maintaining offensive pressure in any direction. Levels are structured as multi-wave encounters, each introducing different objectives or enemy combinations that prevent the experience from becoming monotonous. Rather than simply overwhelming the player with numbers, the game emphasizes enemy behavior and spat…

Yeah. Not quite Geometry Wars, but I guess we're never getting another one of those. This'll do for now.
