While fleeing from a group of bullies, Sally is transported to a dark and twisted version of her hometown, where her fears and anxieties take physical form. To rescue Emily, she must explore this unsettling world while confronting terrifying creatures born from trauma and fear. As we progress we will need to solve environmental puzzles, avoid or confront monsters, and uncover clues about the town's hidden past. The story explores themes such as bullying, guilt, and emotional struggle. We use stealth, simple combat, and exploration, to gradually discover the truth behind the nightmare surrounding our character. The game combines an atmospheric visuals, emotional storytelling, and psychological horror, delivering a haunting adventure that focuses as much on personal growth as it does on survival. Great cute horror game on the surface, but some of the themes it tackles are quite dark. Love the atmosphere and the straight forward gameplay. Highly recommend for fans of spooky (but not too scary) games. Perfect to get in the mood for halloween.

Riding the coattails of Alien: Isolation, I needed something I could actually relax with. GYLT was a smaller title I'd heard about roughly a year ago on a list of underappreciated gems, and the trailer was intriguing enough that I picked it up during the Steam summer sale. What I got was a compact little adventure-horror-puzzle game — an odd but effective blend of Alan Wake, Little Nightmares, and the 2004 Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events tie-in, which I hadn't thought about in twenty years. I wouldn't quite call this family friendly, or at least not without a caveat — it works best for older kids playing alongside an adult. The story tackles some fairly serious questions and subject matter, especially if you read the found materials scattered throughout. Don't let the cartoonish aesthetic fool you; the game opens with a disclaimer about its content for good reason. After finishing, I went back through to piece the timeline together and make sure I'd read the subject matter correctly.
