Outcast - A New Beginning

It is a beautiful and horrible creation at the exact same time. This is a worthy spiritual successor to the original game. The lands have never looked more absolutely beautiful; the environment artists have truly pleased the Yods with their breathtaking work. We are back again as Cutter Slade. Only now, he is not Ulukai. He is merely the Message. The core story of our plight is fine, the pacing is incredibly bad, turning our struggles into a disjointed slog. Worse, the villans who threaten us feel like a bunch of evil cartoon characters rather than a genuine menace. Because of the curse these creators placed on our world, I would personally avoid any future games by these specific writers and game designers. May the Yods have mercy on them.

Outcast is a lovable mess. It’s pretty clear this is an unfinished game with bugs galore and some terrible optimization. I saw interface elements get stuck and enemies fall through the floor, while enduring nasty traversal stutter wonky sound mixes. And I didn’t really care, because it had heart. Since it’s riffing off the Avatar humans-are-the-aliens formula, comparing it to the recent Ubisoft rendition of that franchise is instructive. That open world game is technically impressive, polished to a sheen… and terribly boring. Not to say it’s bad, it’s very well done. But to be honest I find that polish to be off-putting. Outcast, meanwhile, endears with its goofy characters and memorably pretty world. I genuinely enjoyed the voice acting and the silliness of the Talaan people. I think what let me enjoy it most was the movement. Besides the setting and the characters, if the jetpack wasn’t part of things it would not be nearly as enjoyable. But it’s genuinely fun building out the capabilities of the jetpack until you’re swooping around rock spires and whipping through environments. I think that also contributes to the game’s sense of scale - these are truly expansive environments. L…

A hidden gem! I bought this game based on the screenshots, but there is much more here than just the nice graphics. We have 7 main villages/towns. All are pretty and unique. Each introduces a fair amount of new lore and quests around it. The world feels just the right size, and exploring it is satisfying and quick thanks to the upgradable jetpack. Although there are sometimes too many cutscenes, and the UI looks like it never left the prototype stage, I highly recommend giving this game a try since you've been lucky enough to find it.

Seriously fun game, especially the flying and some of the word play jokes are just dumb but still funny! Its janky, its buggy and honestly, the writing is mostly awful, but overall its a really fun game to play!

Really fun after the inital 7-8hours of figuring things out and upgrading enough to enjoy the prakour properly. Fighting was dull too until upgraded, now it's very fast paced and dynamic. Enemy AI is not strong which is a pity. Lot's of dialogue, just like the first game. Occasionally you'll get a funny interaction. There are lot's of types of missions and quests, so explore all the map first and pick what you want to do, it's properly open world. They are not all fetch quests as mentioned in a few comments. Environments and landscapes are well designed, seems like a properly conceived world. I'm at 25 hours a now and just spent the last while flying around Desan for fun. Also the Demo did not impress me - again it takes some time and grinding, then it gets really enjoyable.

Not a half bad game, a great time killer when waiting in between releases of games you may be following. It's got a interesting world and setting. The missions/quests though mostly are very repetitive and can feel boring outside a couple but the story/combat is good. It's got almost Anthem like travel mechanics it's actually pretty fun the more you upgrade your jetpack. A great addition to your library if you like open world third person shooters.
